Baltimore Boxing March 22nd Card Honors Wagner, Raises Funds For Davis!

There will be a very important amateur boxing card on Thursday, March 22nd at Michael's Eighth Avenue in Glen Burnie, MD.  Not for the boxing itself, but for what the card's purposes are.  The Baltimore Boxing card will pay tribute to legendary Ballroom Boxing promoter Scott Wagner as well as raise funds for the women known as the first lady of amateur boxing in the area, Brenda Davis.

Wagner, who passed away on February 16th at the age of 49, ran the highly successful Ballroom Boxing promotions that ran more than 70 successful pro shows over a 15-year period.  The series included many future and former world champions including Hasim Rahman, Al Cole, Orlin Norris, Kermit Cintron and Terence Crawford.  Wagner, who was a longtime friend of Smith, stopped promoting in 2009 and offered the family-owned Michael's Eighth Avenue to Baltimore Boxing Promotions.

“Scott was one of my closest friends and I was devastated by his untimely passing,” said Smith, who co-promoted with Wagner and also fought for him in 1996. “He ran one of the most successful promotions for more than a decade and did right by the fighters.

"Scott Wagner the person was even better than the promoter. He always helped other people and his experience assisted me in expanding Baltimore Boxing Promotions. I am forever thankful and will always have a place in my heart for Scott Wagner.”

The card will also be a fundraiser for Davis, the wife of legendary trainer Adrian Davis.  Ms. Davis, who was one of the first women to be a successful official in USA Amateur Boxing, has had a number of health complications that have severely impacted her.  All proceeds from the card will help cover healthcare costs.

The main event on the card will be a rematch for the East Coast Middleweight title.  Baltimore, MD's Deshawn Chase will battle the only man to defeat him, Omar Serrano of Ocean City, MD.  Also on the card, Tyrell Boyd of Baltimore Boxing takes on Tyler Langer of the Mack Lewis Gym.
