Gary Antuanne Russell of Capitol Heights, MD is still in the hunt for a berth on the United States Olympic team. Russell advanced to the finals of the challenger's bracket with a 3-0 decision win over Jamaine Ortiz-Rodriguez of Worcester, MA in Reno, NV on Thursday.
Russell will now face Rahim Gonzalez of Sylmar, CA on Friday. A Russell win would mean a rematch with Jaron Ennis of Philadelphia, PA who defeated Russell in the first round.
At the Women's World Trials in Reno, Amelia Moore of Millersville, MD lost her bout in the 141-Pound division by a first-round TKO to Jajaira Gonzalez of Glendora, CA. Also, Franchon Crews of Baltimore, MD fell by a 2-1 decision to Tika Hemingway of Brackenridge, PA at 178 pounds.
