Tyrieshia Douglas captured the vacant WIBA Bantamweight title tonight at the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore, MD winning a 10-round unanimous decision over a very game Christina "Bullet" Ruiz of San Antonio, TX.

Douglas controlled the early portion of the bout with solid right jabs and straight left hands. Douglas showed a lot of patience as she did not rush in to go for the knockout.  At times, Ruiz landed some shots but Douglas did not seem to be in any real danger.

Ruiz fought valiantly, especially in the eighth round when she suffered a nasty gash along her right eye as a result of an unintentional headbutt, according to referee Bill Clancy.

Douglas won by scores of 100-90, 99-91 and 98-92 and remains undefeated at 8-0, three KO's. Douglas is now the fifth female Beltway Boxer to win a world title, joining Isra Girgrah Wynn, Lisa Foster Cohen, Tori Nelson and Jennifer Salinas. Ruiz's record evens at 7-7-3, four KO's.

In the co-feature, James Stevenson stopped Larry Ventus at 2:09 of the first round.  Stevenson looked strong as he bounced back from the loss to Sammy Vazquez.  Stevenson dropped Ventus twice en route to the victory.

Stevenson is now 22-1, 15 KO's while Ventus is 6-8-1, three KO's.

BATB talked to the brand new WIBA champion after the contest.
