A long-standing tradition in the Beltway Boxing scene continues on Friday, February 28. The 73rd annual Brigade Boxing Championships will take place at Alumni Hall on the campus of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. The event is free and will begin at 7 PM.
Boxing is a required sport for all midshipmen to participate in as part of the Academy's physical education program. The sport is also offered as a club sport at the academy. The Brigade Boxing Championships will showcase the elite midshipmen boxers in 13 contests. The event has a rich history. In 1967, future Secretary of the Navy James Webb took on future Marine Corps Lt. Col., Oliver North in a welterweight contest. Also, the event was featured in the 2006 movie, "Annapolis." The best boxers from this event will go on to a regional competition to qualify for the National Collegiate Boxing Association Championships which will be held in Miami, FL in April.
If you attend the event, you can park at Navy-Marine Corps Stadium at Rowe Boulevard and Taylor Avenue. Use the blue entrance and ride the free shuttle to Alumni Hall. You can also park outside the gate and walk onto the Naval Academy. However, you will need a picture ID to enter the gate.

Gary do you know when the va golden gloves are and where?
Have not heard yet. I will try to find that out.
Va. Golden gloves are scheduled for the weekend of April 11-13 from what I have heard, probably in virginia beach again like last year.
There was some great fights including the first match between 2 really tough women who got after it. Lots of folks in tux. Classy show.
