D'Mitrius Ballard Advances to PAL Semis!

D'Mitrius Ballard of Temple Hills, MD has moved into the semi-finals of the Open Division at the National PAL Championships at the Seagate Centre in Toledo, OH.

Ballard, who also captured a national Golden Gloves title this year, won by retirement in the third round over Anthony Sims, Jr. of Plainfield, IN in the 178-pound division.

In the only other open bout featuring a Beltway Boxer on Thursday, Lamont Roach, Jr. of Upper Marlboro, MD lost a 22-15 decision to Kenneth Sims, Jr. of Chicago, IL.

In the Intermediate Division, Jason Bell of District Heights, MD won a 17-6 decision over Sharif Rahman of Las Vegas, NV in the 15-16, 165-pound division.  Rahman is the younger son of former heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman.

Also in the intermediate class, Corey Moore of Salisbury, MD lost to Dallas Holden of Atlantic City, NJ by an 18-9 decision.

In the junior division, Kavon Robertson of Staunton, VA defeated Chamar Flowers of Accokeek, MD, 12-4 in the 11-12, 75-pound division.

There will be an interesting contest slated for today's bout sheet.  Olympic gold medalist Claressa Shields is competing in the PALs this year.  After receiving a walkover win on Thursday, Shields will battle Alexandria, VA's Dara Shen today.
