Jeter to Face Lange October 27 at Patriot Center; Odom to Make Pro Debut!

Barring any problems coming out of his September 22 bout in Millersville, MD, middleweight Tony "Mo Better" Jeter of Stevensville, MD will take on Great Falls, VA's Jimmy Lange on Saturday, October 27 at the George Mason University Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA.

Jeter (13-3-1, nine KO's) will be battling Tyrel Brown in an eight-round contest for the WBC Fecarbox Middleweight title on his own Jeter Promotions card in September then will face Lange in a 10-round contest on the Jimmy Lange Boxing-promoted card.  The bout will be Jeter's first scheduled 10-rounder.

This contest was originally scheduled for June but Lange (38-4-2, 25 KO's) suffered an injury in training camp that caused the bout to be postponed.  Lange has not fought since February 11 at the Patriot Center where he won a 12-round unanimous decision over Ruben Galvan in defense of the WBU (World Boxing Union) Junior Middleweight title.  This will be Lange's 14th appearance at the Patriot Center and he has won his last seven bouts in Fairfax.

The card will also feature the much-anticipated pro debut of 2012 National Golden Gloves champion Jerry Odom of DC. Odom won the 178-pound championship at the Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions in Mesquite, NV on May 5 and also walked away with the Golden Boy Trophy given to the Most Outstanding Boxer of the tournament.  Odom is the first of the three 2012 National Golden Gloves champions (Gervonta Davis and D'Mitrius Ballard were the other two) to turn professional.  Odom will face Malik Shelton of DC who is also making his pro debut.

Stevenson to Face Andrews September 22 in Millersville!

Another bout has been added to the Jeter Promotions card on Saturday, September 22 at Club One Fitness in Millersville, MD and it could be a very interesting contest as it matches a boxer who has been inactive for more than a year versus one who has been very active and, despite some close losses, has fought very well in 2012.

Undefeated Baltimore, MD welterweight James "Keep 'Em Sleepin'" Stevenson will take on Richie "The Rock" Andrews of Stuarts Draft, VA  in a six-round contest that will be for the vacant USBU (United States Boxing Union) welterweight title.

Stevenson (15-0, 10 KO's) has not fought since winning back-to-back six-round unanimous decisions over Jose Angel Roman in April and August of 2011.  Andrews (4-2-3, one KO) is coming off a four-round split decision over Harold Parker on August 25 in DC.

'Sho Nuff' Nelson to Battle for Three World Titles in Bermuda Oct. 13!

WIBA (Women's International Boxing Association) Middleweight champion Tori "Sho Nuff" Nelson will put her title on the line and will try to win the WBA Female Middleweight championship and the vacant WBC title when she takes on Warwick, Bermuda's Teresa Perozzi in a 10-round contest on Saturday, October 13 in Southampton, Bermuda.

The undefeated Nelson (6-0-1) won the WIBA title in her last outing -- an impressive 10-round unanimous decision over Vashon Living on February 11 at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA.  At one time, Nelson held the WBC championship defeating Lorrisa Rivas by 10-round split decision in July of 2011 in Port of Spain, Trinidad.

In the most recent issue of Ring Magazine, Nelson was ranked the third-best middleweight in the world behind Germany's Christina Hammer and Maria Lindberg of Sweden.

This is all the more amazing when you consider Nelson's back story -- a single mom of two teenagers who holds down three jobs. This and other aspects of Nelson's life are featured in a brand new documentary by Jeff Riegel entitled Tori Nelson: Fighting For Her Future.  Here is that documentary:

Video Version of BATB Post-Fight Wrap-Up!

When Boxing Along The Beltway first started in 2005, one of my goals was to make the boxing scene in this area a viable one for other media outlets in our area.  That goal has been achieved. BATB has also been, and will continue to be, a source that will work with, not compete against, those other outlets who want to showcase our boxing talent.

This is a prime example of what we're talking about.  Earlier, I posted an audio version of the latest BATB Post-Fight Wrap-Up show.  Four media outlets combined to make this a reality this time out. The show was also videotaped and I feel it was so good that I had to post this as well.  Kudos go to Juan Marshall of ProAmFightTalk and Michael Walters of Bleacher Report/Boxing Talk for their on-air comments.

Special thanks to Brent Powell of 4th Street Films who shot and edited the show and made all of us look good.  We hope to do more like this in the future and there is another outlet that I am in negotiations with to do another form of boxing show.

Update on September 22 Card in Millersville!

More bouts have been added to the Saturday, September 22 Jeter Promotions card at Club One Fitness in Millersville, MD.

There will be a six-round contest for the vacant USBU (United States Boxing Union) heavyweight title.  Undefeated "Slick" Nick Kisner of Ferndale, MD will take on Norfolk, VA's Dennis Benson.  Kisner (10-0-1, five KO's) makes his first appearance in 2012 with this bout.  Kisner last fought on August 19 of last year and won a four-round unanimous decision over Rayshawn Myers in Baltimore, MD.  Benson (1-3, one KO) has lost three straight since winning his pro debut.

In a six-round middleweight rematch, Baltimore, MD's "The Golden Greek" Elias Bouloubassis battles Stephen Franklin of Martinsburg, WVA.  The undefeated Bouloubassis (7-0-5, five KO's) is coming off a first-round TKO of William Armstead on July 14 in Washington, DC.  Franklin (0-7) last fought on February 25 at Club One and lost a four-round unanimous decision to Lee Snow.  The last time Bouloubassis and Franklin met was in June of 2011 in Baltimore and Bouloubassis won a four-round unanimous decision.

Also on the card, Upper Marlboro, MD heavyweight Duane Mobley will take on Dave Fleming of Lynchburg, VA in a six-round contest.  Mobley (4-0, three KO's) scored a first-round TKO over Ryan Shay on the July 14th card in DC.  Fleming (2-1, one KO) will be trying to bounce back after suffering his first pro loss -- a four-round unanimous decision to Franklin Edmondson on August 18 in Greensboro, NC.

Baltimore, MD middleweight Dan Cannaday returns to face DC's Issa Coulibaly in a four-round contest.  Cannaday (1-0) has not fought since making his pro debut and winning a four-round unanimous decision over Stephen Franklin in March of 2011 in Ranson, WVA.  By contrast, Coulibaly (0-2) was in the ring this past Saturday in DC and lost a four-round unanimous decision to Farrad Price.

As BATB mentioned earlier, the main event features Tony "Mo Better" Jeter (13-3-1, nine KO's) battling Tyrel Brown (7-2, seven KO's) for the WBC Fecarbox Middleweight title.  Undefeated Beltway Boxers Venroy "Hard Work" July and James "Keep Em' Sleepin'" Stevenson are also slated to appear on the card.

Harrison Vs. Jackson -- In Its Entirety!

Some good debate on the previous post concerning the main event at Saturday night's Keystone Boxing card at the Washington Convention Center.  This video may solve the debate -- or maybe not.

Through the watchful -- and unedited -- camera of Juan Marshall of ProAm Fight Talk, here is the entire bout between Dusty Harrison and Marques Jackson.  Judge for yourself.

Recap From Convention Center!

Here is the recap of the Keystone Boxing card at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC:

Welterweight Dusty Harrison survived a knockdown in the sixth-round to win by unanimous decision over Marqus Jackson of Atlanta, GA.  Harrison won by scores of 59-55 and 58-55 (twice) to remain undefeated at 8-0, four KO's.  Jackson is now 2-6, one NC, two KO's.

Junior welterweight Richie "The Rock" Andrews of Stuarts Draft, VA won a four-round split decision over Harold "Sweet Lee" Parker of DC.  Andrews won by scores of 39-37 and 38-37.  Parker won one card 38-37.  Andrews is now 4-2-3, one KO, Parker is 2-1, two KO's.

Junior lightweight David Warren Huffman of Milwaukee, WI won a four-round majority decision in a rematch against Renaldo "Misunderstood" Gaines of District Heights, MD.   Huffman was the aggressor throughout the contest and earned his first pro victory.  Huffman is 1-7.  Gaines is now 2-1.

Late sub Jimmy "The Dream" LeBlanc of South Boston, MA scored a fourth-round TKO over Josh Rupard of Charlotte Hall, MD in a junior middleweight battle.  LeBlanc was a true veteran in this one, using great movement and landing crisp shots.  The bout was stopped at 34 seconds of the fourth.  Rupard is now 2-1, two KO's while LeBlanc is 13-22-4, five KO's.

DC light heavyweight Greg Newby won his pro debut with a first-round stoppage of Gavin Hume of Akron, OH.  Newby used a body shot to close the show at 1:38 of the round.  Hume was also making his pro debut.

Lightweight Joshua "Marvelous Mo" Parker, younger brother of Harold, won his pro debut with a second-round TKO over the equally-debuting Joseph Dixon of North Carolina. The time was 1:06 of the second.

Farrad "The Rose" Price of Suffolk, VA won a four-round unanimous decision over Issa Coulibaly of DC.  Price is 2-0, Coulibaly is 0-2.

Harrison Knocked Down, Wins Unanimous Decision!

Dusty Harrison was knocked down midway through the sixth round but managed to get a six-round unanimous decision over Marques Jackson.

Harrison was hit by an overhand right that caused him to slump into the ropes.  Jackson couldn't finish the job and lost by scores of 59-55 and 58-55 (twice).

We'll have a very interesting post-fight in a moment.  Interview now with Harrison on Spreaker.

Main Event in the Ring!

Dusty Harrison and Marques Jackson in the ring.  Intermission Recap on Spreaker.com.

Andrews Wins Split Decision Over H.Parker!

Richie "The Rock" Andrews wins a four-round split decision over Harold Parker.  Andrews was extremely aggressive tonight as he kept Parker off balance throughout.  Tough foe for Parker as he loses for the first time.  Andrews is now 4-2-3, one KO.

Intermission time..then the main event.

Huffman wins Majority Decision in Rematch Over Gaines!

Best bout of the night so far David Warren Huffman wins a four-round majority decision over Renaldo Gaines.  Great action as Huffman did some damage in the later rounds.

Huffman wins his first pro bout and he is 1-7.  Gaines is 2-1.

Co-feature is up now -- Harold Parker vs. Richie Andrews.

LeBlanc Stops Rupard in Fourth!

Jimmy "The Dream" LeBlanc used a strong attack to stop Josh Rupard in the fourth round.  LeBlanc did a very effective job in parrying the bull rush of Rupard.  Rupard suffered a bloody nose two minutes into the bout.  Rupard is now 2-1, two KO's.  LeBlanc is 13-22-4, five KO's.

Phil Jackson taking on...and knocking out Anthony Pietratonio.  Body shots did the damage as Jackson stops his opponent at 2:59 of the first.  Jackson is now 8-1, seven KO's.  Pietratonio is now 7-10, six KO's.

Up next,  the rematch between Renaldo Gaines and David Warren Huffman.

J. Parker Wins By Second-Round TKO; Newby Wins in First!

Joshua "Marvelous Mo" Parker won a second-round TKO over Joseph Dixon.  Parker was very aggressive in the second -- maybe too aggressive as he did hit Dixon on the ground a couple of times. Not called, however.   Dixon was also making his debut.  The time was 1:06 of the second.

Greg Newby made short work of Gavin Hume in his pro debut, using a strong body shot to stop Gavin Hume at 1:38 of the first.

Up next: Josh Rupard vs. Jimmy LeBlanc.

Price Wins Unanimous Decision!

Farrad "The Rose" Price wins a four-round unanimous decision over Issa Coulibaly.  Coulibaly looked a lot more aggressive than he did in his pro debut but it wasn't enough to beat Price, who really didn't seem that effective but got the win 39-37 on all cards.  Price is 2-0.  Coulibaly is 0-2.

Up next -- the debut of Joshua Parker vs. Joseph Dixon.

First Bout underway!

We are underway from the Convention Center.  Price- Coulibaly in the ring.

Chevalier Referees World Title Bout September 1 in Panama!

He has long been considered one of the best referees to ever come out of the Beltway region.  Over the years, however, the entire boxing world has come to know how great he is as a referee.

Longtime local ref Kenny Chevalier (left) will be the third man in the ring when Moruti Mthalane of South Africa defends his IBF World Flyweight title against Ricardo Nunez of Panama on Saturday, September 1 at the Roberto Duran Arena in Panama City, Panama.

According to Boxrec.com, this is Chevalier's ninth world title bout and his third that has taken place outside of the United States after previous trips to South Africa and Mexico.  Among some of the great title bouts Chevalier has worked include William Joppy's third bout against Julio Cesar Green in September of 1999, the All-Beltway title bout between champion Sharmba Mitchell and challenger Reggie Green in April of 1999 (both at the Verizon Center) and Andrew Council's bid for the middleweight title against Bernard Hopkins in November of 1997 at the Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, MD.

Mitchell Heavyweight Bout Moved to November 3!

It looks like Seth Mitchell will have to wait again to step back into the ring.  The Brandywine, MD's native's heavyweight encounter with Johnathon Banks has been pushed back until Saturday, November 8.

Unlike the first time the bout was postponed (when Mitchell was recovering from a hand injury), the postponement has nothing to do with either Mitchell or Banks.  It has to do with the co-feature contest on the card, the bout that includes former junior lightweight champ Adrian Broner.  The promoter, Golden Boy Promotions, has had a tough time securing an opponent for Broner so the card was rescheduled from October 6 to this date.

The card was slated to take place at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ, but that may be changed as well.

BATB Needs to Clarify Recent Post!

BATB would like to apologize to the Akinyanju family and anyone else who was mislead by a recent post. Based on information given by other outlets, I was given the impression that the Akinyanju family had politely declined the recent contributions that some, including myself had given.  After talking with members of the family, I have been told that is DEFINITELY not true.  They have told me that any help given is greatly appreciated.

I truly regret the error made in this situation.

'Real Deal' Steele Heads to Newark, NJ September 8!

Staunton, VA junior welterweight Christian "Real Deal" Steele returns to action on Saturday, September 8 at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. Steele (3-4, one KO) will face Jose Peralta Alejo of Jersey City, NJ by way of the Dominican Republic (9-1, five KO's) in a six-round contest.

We haven't talked a lot about Steele because most of his bouts have taken place outside of the Beltway region and no one alerted us to his work. His only bout in the area was his last one where he won a four-round majority decision over Juan Rodriguez on June 23 in Arlington, VA.

Alejo will be facing a Beltway Boxer for the third time in his career. His last outing was a fourth-round TKO over Dontre King on June 16th at the Prudential Center.  Alejo also won a six-round unanimous decision over Lenwood Dozier in February in Philadelphia, PA.

Rahman Feels Disrespected In Press Tour for September 29 Title Bout Against Povetkin!

It could be where the bout is being held.  It could be because he is simply the mandatory challenger and not being promoted by the promotional company putting on the bout and no one really understands how he got to be the mandatory challenger in the first place.  Or, it could be that being a former undisputed heavyweight champion doesn't carry as much weight as it used to.

Whatever the reason, former undisputed World Heavyweight champion Hasim "The Rock" Rahman says he feels truly disrespected during the promotional tour leading up to his Saturday, September 29 title bid against WBA titleholder Alexander Povetkin in Hamburg, Germany.

Rahman didn't have a lot to say at a press conference held in Hamburg on Thursday.  However, he said enough to let his displeasure be known.

"Obviously, I am not being respected over here. For that, I will punish Povetkin inside the ring and take revenge. This is all I have got to say," Rahman commented.   The Baltimore, MD native gave very few interviews after the conference was over.

Povetkin came to the conference with a brand new trainer -- former world champion Kostya Tszyu replaces Teddy Atlas in Povetkin's corner.

Tributes Come in Wake of Akinyanju Tragedy!

Tributes are coming quickly in the wake of the tragic passing of Abodunrin "Bo" Akinyanju.  BATB has learned that there will be a number of tributes planned for  the Saturday, August 25th boxing card at the Washington Convention Center.  Representatives for Keystone Boxing say they will have something in place by that time. Akinyanju's last bout was on a Keystone Boxing card on March 10 at the Convention Center.

DC welterweight Dusty Harrison, who is headlining the card, says he will donate his entire purse to Akinyanju's family.  Also, representatives for Seth Mitchell send their condolences.  Many tributes have come via Facebook and other social media.

As soon as we get word on arrangements, we will certainly pass them along.

Abodunrin Akinyanju Dies in Delaware Traffic Accident!

We have some very sad news to report.  BATB has learned that Springdale, MD heavyweight Abodunrin "Big Bo" Akinyanju died today in a traffic accident on 95 South in Delaware.  Akinyanju was 28 years old.

Sources tell BATB that Akinyanju was returning home from making deliveries in a box truck when a tractor-trailer made an illegal U-turn and hit him head-on at about 3:40 this morning.  Akinyanju died instantly.  According to news and police reports, the box truck swerved right in an attempt to avoid the tractor trailer. The box truck then hit the right rear of the tractor trailer, then flipped over, causing the cargo section to separate from the truck and spilling the cargo of linen all over the roadway. The driver of the tractor-trailer was identified as 35-year-old Abubaker Jamal of Columbus, OH.  Jamal was not injured.  The crash closed I-95 South for eight hours.

Akinyanju had a record of 5-2, three KO's.  He just fought on the March 10th Keystone Boxing card at the Washington Convention Center and won a four-round unanimous decision over Deandre McCole.  Akinyanju turned pro in 2009 after a sterling amateur career that included national titles and being the only man to defeat current heavyweight contender Seth Mitchell.

Akinyanju leaves behind a wife and a baby boy who was just born on August 12.  Our deepest condolences to family and friends.

Nick Kisner Promotes Amateur Card August 25 in Millersville!

Long-time Beltway Boxing fans may remember the successful amateur boxing shows that Max Kisner put on in the 80's.  (I was not even aware of those -- thanks to a reader who pointed that fact out) Danny Kisner used to promote exciting shows along the Baltimore section of the region in the 1990's.  Well, it looks like the promoting genes, like the boxing genes before them, have been passed down.  Kisner's son, "Slick" Nick Kisner, will make his debut as a promoter (Slick Nick Promotions) on Saturday, August 25 with an amateur boxing card at the Maryland Sportsplex in Millersville, MD.

Scheduled to appear on the card are Stan Williamson against Brian Yakel and Omar Barnes battles Jamal Beyer.   There will be a number of other bouts on the card.  The doors will open at 5:30 PM and the card begins at 6:30 PM.  Tickets are $35 and $55.

Kisner is slated to spend a lot of time in Millersville in the next few months.  Still active as a pro boxer (10-0-1, five KO's), Kisner is slated to compete on a Jeter Promotions card on Saturday, September 22 just down the street from the Sportsplex at Club One Fitness.  Then, Kisner is scheduled to promote another amateur show at the Sportsplex in October.

Featherstone, Morris Win Amateur Bouts in York, PA!

My thanks to noted boxing writer JR Jowett for this information.  Two Baltimore amateurs won decisions on a pro-am card in York, PA Friday night.

Novice 201-pounder Stephen Morris of the Baltimore Boxing club won a 2-1 decision over Mitchell Witmer of the Capital Boxing club of Harrisburg, PA.  According to Jowett, Morris had the better boxing skills and used his jab well to gain the victory.

Morris's gym mate, 165-pound novice Jerome Featherstone, also was victorious scoring a 3-0 decision over Shakeem Hodge of East Reading Boxing Club of Reading, PA.   Jowett said Featherstone scored with straighter blows during the first two rounds while Hodge was slapping with his punches throughout.

'Tranzformer' Taylor Returns September 14 in Pennsylvania!

Edgewood Arsenal, MD junior welterweight Emmanuel "Tranzformer" Taylor will return to action on Friday, September 14 for a six-round bout at Harrah's Casino in Chester, PA.  Taylor will take on Dillet Frederick of Fort Myers, FL.

Taylor (14-1, 10 KO's) will try to bounce back from his first pro loss -- an eight-round split decision to Prenice Brewer on November 10 at the Fight Night Charity Boxing card at the Washington Hilton Hotel and Towers in Washington, DC.  Frederick (8-6-3, five KO's) has lost his last two and three of his last four by knockout to undefeated opponents.  Frederick's one win in that stretch was by knockout.

Cochran Weighs 126 for Scrap in San Antonio!

Jerren Cochran weighed in at 126.4 pounds for his bout against fellow undefeated boxer Jesus Rocha that will take place Saturday night at the Illusions Theater in San Antonio, TX.  Rocha tipped the scales at 126 even.

The card is a Golden Boy Promotions card that will be shown on the Telefutura Channel.  No word on whether Cochran's bout will make the telecast.

L.Peterson Remains IBF Champion; Must Honor Mandatory Against Judah!

The International Boxing Federation (IBF) has ruled that DC's Lamont Peterson will remain the federation's Junior Welterweight champion.  The IBF's ruling was based on the findings of an independent physician who is certified in internal medicine and endocrinology who reviewed Peterson's medical records that were sent to the Volunteer Anti-Doping Agency (VADA) in May.  Peterson won both the IBF and WBA titles from Amir Khan in Washington, DC on December 10, 2011.  The WBA stripped Peterson of their version of the title because of the positive test for synthetic testosterone.

From the IBF's press release:  "The physician was asked by the IBF to provide an opinion as to whether the levels of testosterone noted in the VADA report appeared to be consistent with the therapeutic use of the hormone, or for performance enhancing purposes. Additionally, the physician was asked to confer on whether these levels of testosterone would have enhanced Lamont Peterson’s training for and performance during the bout on December 10, 2011, and for his training for the bout scheduled for May 19, 2012.

After concluding the review of all the documentation provided by Peterson’s camp and the Nevada State Athletic Commission, the physician determined that the testosterone levels noted in the VADA report are consistent with the therapeutic use of the hormone and not for the purpose of performance enhancement. Therefore, these levels would not have enhanced Lamont Peterson’s training for or performance during the bout on December 10, 2011. Nor for his training for the bout that was schedule for May 19, 2012, as a specimen collected by VADA on April 13, 2012 tested negative on May 2, 2012."

The IBF has advised the Peterson camp of these findings and also told the camp that they must make a mandatory title defense against the number one contender -- former world champion Zab "Super" Judah.  The bout should have taken place before September 10, but that date was postponed pending the receipt of the endocrinologist's report.  The IBF has ordered immediate negotiations for a date and location for a bout that will take place as soon as all parties agree to the conditions.

August 25th DC Card Coming Together!

The Saturday, August 25 Keystone Boxing card at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC is coming together with a lot of young talent on the card.

Undefeated DC welterweight Dusty Harrison headlines the show in a six-round contest against Marqus "Goose" Jackson of Atlanta, GA.  Harrison (7-0, four KO's) is coming off a first-round TKO of Reggie Nash on the last Keystone Boxing card on July 14 at the Convention Center.  Jackson (2-5, 1 NC, two KO's)  is winless in his last five bouts and has not fought since February 2011.

In a four-round junior middleweight encounter, Harold "Sweet Lee" Parker of DC will battle Richie "The Rock" Andrews of Stuarts Draft, VA.  Parker (2-0, two KO's) is coming off a second-round TKO over Antonio Sadler on the July 14 Keystone card.  Andrews (3-2-3, one KO) has lost back-to-back four-round majority decisions in his last two outings.

This card will mark a special day for the Parker family because Harold Parker's younger brother, Joshua "Marvelous Mo" Parker, will make his pro debut in a four-round lightweight contest against Jason Meeks  of Rock Hill, SC (0-1).

Also on the card, Charlotte Hall, MD middleweight Josh Rupard (2-0, two KO's) will take on the aforementioned Antonio Sadler of Columbia, SC (1-1-1).  Rupard's knockout wins have both come in the first round.

In a four-round super featherweight rematch, District Heights, MD super featherweight Renaldo "Misunderstood" Gaines battles David Warren Huffman of Milwaukee, WI.  Gaines (2-0) made his pro debut against Huffman (0-7) on March 10 at the Convention Center, winning a four-round unanimous decision.

Suffolk, VA middleweight Farrad "The Rose" Price returns to action when he faces DC's Issa Coulibaly in a four-round battle.  Price (1-0) has not fought since making his pro debut in May of 2011, defeating Damont Giddins by four-round unanimous decision in Millersville, MD.  Coulibaly (0-1) lost his pro debut by fourth-round TKO to Lee Snow on June 16 in Baltimore, MD.

DC light heavyweight Greg Newby, who was slated to make his pro debut on the August 4 card in DC, has been added to this card and will face the equally debuting Gavin Hume of Cincinnati, OH.

The co-feature on the card will match Brooklyn, NY light heavyweight Phil Benson (7-1, six KO's) against Anthony Pietrantonio of Youngstown, OH (7-9, six KO's) in a six-round contest.  Benson scored a fourth-round TKO over Mark Anderson on April 28 in Wilson, NC while Pietrantonio has lost his last two by knockout.

There is a community festival as well as the boxing, kickboxing and MMA events.  A number of organizations are coming together for this event -- The DC Boxing and Wrestling Commission, the DC Department of Parks and Recreation, the Potomac Valley Association of USA Boxing and the Yamasaki Academy.

'Hardknocks' Cochran Battles in San Antonio August 11!

Undefeated, Alexandria, VA-based featherweight Jerren "Hardknocks" Cochran returns to action on Saturday, August 11 when he faces undefeated Jesus Rocha of Dallas, TX in a four-round contest at the Illusions Theater in San Antonio, TX.

Cochran (4-0, three KO's) will be competing for the first time in 2012.  Cochran's last bout was a four-round unanimous decision win over Jason Rorie on the Fight Night Charity Boxing card on November 10 at the Washington Hilton and Towers Hotel in Washington, DC.  Cochran is returning to his home state -- he is a native of Houston, TX.

Rocha (2-0-1) is coming off a four-round unanimous decision over Kashiff Solarin on June 29 in Wichita Falls, TX.

Why No Ringside Championship Results?

The folks at the Ringside World Championships are on travel and have not posted the results of the final day of competition.  That is why we have not received them as of yet.  Ringside says they will be posted by Monday evening.  If anyone from the Beltway region can tell us how some of the boxers did on Saturday, we would appreciate it, and as soon as we get a full list, we will post in its entirety.

'Top Dog' Williams Remains Undefeated in Mobile, AL!

Fort Washington, MD light heavyweight Thomas "Top Dog" Williams, Jr. scored a first-round TKO over Menominee, WI's Harley Kilfian Saturday night at the Mobile Civic Center Expo Hall in Mobile, AL.  Williams scored two knockdowns and stopped his opponent at 1:41 seconds.  Williams is now 10-0, seven KO's.  Kilfian falls to 9-11, eight KO's.

Debuting Boxers Score First-Round Victories in DC!

All eyes tonight were on the young boxers making their pro debuts on the Babie Girl Productions card tonight at the Renaissance Hotel in Washington, DC.  They did not disappoint as they made short work of their opponents scoring first-round knockouts.

DC flyweight  Tyrieshia "Baby Girl" Douglas stopped the debuting Ashley "First Lady" Langston of Wilson, NC at 1:46 of the first.  After being led to the ring by a spoken word artist named "Beautiful Believer," Douglas went right to work landing solid right hands against Langston.  One Douglas right literally popped Langston in her mouth and stopped her in her tracks, drawing blood from her mouth. Langston seemed to be unaware of what to do and referee Sharon Sands stopped the contest.

DC welterweight David "Day-Day" Grayton scored a first-round stoppage over Gregory Joyner of Wilson, NC.  Grayton pummeled Joyner for the duration of the contest, forcing referee Michelle Myers to stop the contest at 1:16 of the round.  Joyner is 0-4.

Heavyweight Danny "Smooth" Kelly of DC stopped Orion Bolds of Canton, OH with a short body shot that crumpled Bolds to the canvas at 2:01 of the first.  Bolds could not beat Sands's count.

But it was Newport News, VA heavyweight Jerry"Slug" Forrest who had the shortest debut along with one of the best post-bout celebrations seen in the area in a long time.  Forrest needed just 41 seconds to land brutal right hands and stop Keon Graham of Canton, OH (0-3).  After the win, the 235-pound Forrest honored his fellow Virginian and new gymnastic champion Gabby Douglas by turning backflips and doing cartwheels to celebrate his victory.

Also on the card, White Plains, MD lightweight Terron "Kid" Grant remained undefeated with a 41-second demolition of Deiverious Sanders of Zeblin, GA.  Grant landed solid body shots that made Sanders fall face first.  Grant is now 3-0, two KO's while Sanders is 0-4.

DC female heavyweight Kaelon Hollon made it two straight against Philadelphia, PA's Kasondra Hardnett.  Hollon won a majority decision over Hardnett in March, but had a little easier time in this outing as she established the jab and used great side-to-side movement against the somewhat stationery Hardnett to win a four-round unanimous decision.  Hollon is 3-0 while Hardnett is 1-4.

The main event saw Ivanhoe, NC heavyweight Donnell "The Real Touch of Sleep" Holmes win a six round unanimous decision over Wilson, NC's Maurice "The South Soldier" Winslow.

We were unable to blog live tonight because Wi-Fi wasn't readily available in the ballroom where the card was held.  We were, however, able to record a Post-Fight Wrap-Up on our brand new system, Spreaker.  Here is myself alongside "The Fight Doctor" Jerome Spears.

Barnett Stopped in Ninth Round in Vegas!

DC lightweight Ty Barnett's bid for a nationally-televised upset was thwarted tonight at Texas Station Gambling Hall and Casino in Las Vegas as undefeated Mercito "No Mercy" Gesta of San Diego, CA scored a ninth-round TKO.

Barnett had his moments early on in the bout as he landed good jabs through the first three rounds.  By round five, however, Gesta picked up the pace offensively and landed some solid punches with the right hand.

Gesta went into overdrive in the ninth and battered Barnett around the ring, knocking him down twice.  The second knockdown looked like a punch that landed after the bell but the punch looked like it started before the bell and Gesta couldn't stop it.  Referee Jay Nady stopped the contest at 2:59 of the round.

Barnett is now 20-3-1, 13 KO's.  All three of his losses have come by knockout.  Gesta is now 26-0-1, 14 KO's.

Williams Weighs At Light Heavyweight Limit for Six-Rounder in Mobile!

Thomas Williams, Jr. weighed in at the light heavyweight limit of 175 pounds for his six-round contest against Harley Kilfian Saturday night at the Mobile Civic Center Arena Expo Hall in Mobile, AL.  Kilfian tipped the scales at 174 pounds.

The bout is on the undercard of Deontay Wilder's bout with Kerston Manswell that will air on FOX Sports Net and FOX Deportes.  No word on whether Williams's contest will air on the telecast.

Weights From DC!

Here is the scale watch for Saturday's Babie Girl Productions Card at the Renaissance Hotel in Washington, DC:

Tyrieshia Douglas 109 vs. Ashley Langston 109

Terron Grant 133 vs. Devirous Sanders 135

David Grayton 149 vs. Gregory Joyner 144

Kaelon Hollon 206 vs. Kasondra Hartnett 246

Gregory Newby 172 vs. Orion Bolds 200

Danny Kelly 240 vs. Opponent will weigh in tomorrow

Donnell Holmes 233 vs. Maurice Winslow 223

Jerry Forrest 235 vs. Keon Graham 235

Henry Buchanan will be on the card but in an exhibition bout against local Charles Burgess and that puts the Holmes-Winslow bout as the main event.  Devirous Sanders of Zeflin, GA (0-3) is a late substitute.  If they don't find a late sub for Danny Kelly, there is a possibility that Orion Bolds of Canton, OH may end up fighting him.  Bolds, who is a debuting boxer, weighed in at the cruiserweight limit against Newby, who is debuting as a light heavyweight.

The DC Boxing and Wrestling Commission says this card will make history as two female referees will work this card.  The commission says that is a first ever situation in boxing.  The referees will be Michelle Myers and Sharon Sands.
