A few catch-up items: Glen Burnie, MD welterweight Lenwood "Mr. Composure" Dozier lost a six-round unanimous decision to Decarlo Perez of Atlantic City, NJ Saturday night in Newtown Township, PA. Dozier lost by scores of 59-55 (twice) and 60-54. This is the second straight loss for Dozier who is now 7-5-1, three KO's. Perez is now 7-2-1, two KO's.
It looks like Hasim Rahman's chance for a third world heavyweight title may have to take place in a new location. Rahman was scheduled to challenge undefeated Alexander Povetkin for Povetkin's WBA title on July 14 in London, England. However, there are major issues with the feature bout on the card --the grudge match between British heavyweights David Haye and Dereck Chisora. A top German TV network has balked at televising the bout after Wladimir Klitschko called the bout "a freak show."
The British Boxing Board of Control has threatened to terminate the license of anyone associated with the show and the German Boxing Federation has called upon the European Boxing Union to ban the Luxembourg Commission who were going to sanction the contest.
Sauerland Boxing, who works with Povetkin, may move the Povetkin-Rahman bout to Germany. No word on whether the bout will take place on the same date.
Two Beltway female amateurs are competing in the AIBA Women's World championships in Qinhuangdao, China this week. Franchon Crews will face Sabrina DeLarue of France in light heavyweight competition on Monday while middleweight Dara Shen (who will be boxing for Chinese Taipei in this event) will take on Claudia Heijns of the Republic of South Africa on Monday.
