Angelo Dundee, 1921-2012!

Most boxing fans knew him as the trainer of two of the most popular boxing champions of all-time. Everyone in boxing knew him as not only a hall of fame trainer, but also truly one hell of a nice guy.

Angelo Dundee passed away today. He was 90 years old.

Mr. Dundee trained 15 world champions during his career. Most people know he was the man behind the legends of Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard. He also trained the likes of Jose Napoles and Carmen Basilio. In the latter years of his career, he was still giving his vast knowledge to young prospects, such as the Beltway's own Jimmy Lange.

He was, simply, a legend.

Angelo Dundee was not working with Jimmy Lange! Just because he met him and said hello and maybe gave some words of encouragement, DOES NOT mean that he was working with him. Wow, how horrible reporting.

Angelo Dundee and Bobby Magruder were close friends. Angelo attended a pro boxing show in Waldorf a couple of years ago at Bobby's invitation. Angelo was a very friendly and approachable guy. He will be missed.

In actually, Dundee DID work Lange's corner in a couple of his bouts. He did a lot more that give words of encouragement. I saw that for myself. Wow, how horrible fan following!

In actuality, Dundee worked four of Lange's bouts during his career. Please do a search of Dundee on my site and you will see the references.
