Shah To Battle Veteran Yorgey On February 11 Patriot Center Card!

A very interesting matchup has been added to the Ice Promotions card on Saturday, February 11 at the George Mason University Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA. Undefeated Centreville, VA middleweight Zain "Tiger" Shah will face veteran contender Harry Joe Yorgey in a six-round contest.

Shah (6-0, four KO's) is coming off a second-round knockout of Julius Kennedy on September 10 at the Patriot Center. It must be noted, however, that there are reports that the win might be changed to a no-contest because Shah hit Kennedy while Kennedy was down on one knee.

Yorgey (23-1-1, 11 KO's) scored a fifth-round TKO over Donovan Castaneda on February 25 in Tulsa, OK. Yorgey visited Virginia last year in hopes to have a bout with Jimmy Lange. Yorgey's only loss was for the interim WBO Light Middleweight title in November of 2009. Yorgey suffered a third-round knockout at the hands of Alfredo Angulo.

That mans crazy. He'll fight anybody

Harry Joe Yorgey? So much for the accusation that local favorites get cream puff opponents! I hope that Zain has his inner "Tiger" ready to unleash because he's going to need every ounce of it.

And to think that I was looking forward to Shah vs. Tony Jeter before Jeter pulled out. Unlike Jeter, Shah is willing to take on a major leauge "put up or shut up" opponent. Congratulations Zain Shah for taking a giant step in your career, and the best of luck on Feb. 11th!

Wow, good for Zain and a big step up in terms of opponents. If he can pull this off, it's a big feather in his cap.

Oh wow....should be a good one!!

Oh..its happening..contracts have been signed

Poor management. Why put a quality prospect at risk in that sort of fight. Whoever is managing Mr. Shah thinks he has balls, but is just stupid. Yorgey is too experienced and Shah needs to be developped correctly and not thrown in over his head when it means nothing.

Given shahs age and inactivity its a great fight for him

I think it's a great fight for Shah. Harry Joe Yorgey is basically Jessie Nicklow IMO. I betcha Shah knocks him out. Just don't hit him when he's down.

Even Chris Nicholson slams Tony Jeter when he says "unlike Jeter, Shah is willing to take on a major league opponent". Friggin' punk! I wonder if Jeter is going to rematch Jose Felix on this one. Doubt it! He needs about 10 cripples to knock out and show his devastating power and awesome amateur background before he would even consider a rematch. I told you he was the WOAT!

A neophite question: Harry Joe Yorgey is ranked #15 in the country according to Boxrec.com. Jimmy Lange is ranked 21. If Zain Shah were to beat Yorgey, would he become ranked higher than Lange?

Would that give him a shot at langes belt? That could be a fun one

Anonymous said...

that would not be a fun one...I have been in the ring with both lange and shah. Shah has one weapon and that's all. Lange-like him or hate him- has much to much experience for him. Let's not forget that john terry knocked the shit out of shah in there fights....what do you think lange would do?

Jeter is fighting A rematch with Jose Felix on Feb 25th in Millersville, MD.

I agree big risk, huge reward, Zain is getting older and has to start taking chances like this, good stuff, great fight for Zain. Big ups to his team for stepping up.

To respond to Chris Nicholson's " unlike Jeter." Jeter for all sense and purposes really didn't pull out of the Shah fight, he gave a verbal no contract was signed. Can't pull out if you weren't in

Jeter shah doesnt make sense. Two up and comi.g local guys squaring off for peanuts. We need to find other guys for our beltway boxers to box instead of takjng each other out

A verbal commitment is indeed a commitment. If a man isn't good to his word, that makes a statement.

Before backing out, Jeter made his commitment to fight Shah explicit enough for a press release to be issued. While there may be good arguments from Jeter's camp why Jeter/Shah is not a good matchup, the fact still remains that it was Jeter who backed out, not Shah.

No one said it was shah who backed out.

In this business if it isn't signed it ain't done. Sometimes even it is signed it ain't done it seems.

Lets move forward Great fight for a good show

One commenter complained that Zain Shah was not nominated for Prospect of the Year in the BATB Awards this year. If Shah pulls this one off, he would likely be short-listed for that honor in 2012. (And perhaps it would inspire an "Upset of the Year" category, too.)

Big bout for Shah. It will be a big win for him! I'm looking forward to the bout!

Zain is over the jeter pull out. He likes tony. I think its time for everyone else to grt over it too

Brian said...

Not to worried about as to who says what? You are entitled to your feelings. Yeah that gun was jumped by him doing a press release so he has coming to him the wrath he is getting

I'm sorry, but I know virtually nothing about boxing and was wanting to get a copy of the HBO documentary with Boo Boo Sawyer for a friend of mine. He met Boo Boo on the Metro the other day and got his autograph.

Gary Digital Williams said...

Okay! The video is called "Assault in the Ring." I had nothing to do with the video. Sawyer's portion is one of the extras on the DVD.

Brian said...

How about you promote it?

Is shah vs yorgey going to end up being an early match?

Anonymous said...

With Yorgey's ranking, he and Shah should be the co-main event. But they have already announced the co-main as Michael Stewart vs. Joe Wyatt.

That would put Shah and Yorgey third from the top, unless the "championship" girl fight drops them down to fourth.

Anonymous said...

I saw a poster with all the matchups on Facebook. They had Shah-Yorgey listed fourth, behind the girl fight. I still think Shah-Yorgey should be the co-main event, if that spot weren't already spoken for.

Anonymous said...

this is how the fight will go. yorgey will be winning every round four about 2 or 3 rounds and then boom out go the lights!

Anonymous said...

I'll be very surprised if Shah wins this fight. The less number of rounds the better. The 6 round distance will suit him better than the 10-12 round distance which Yorgey has fought previously. I really dont get this fight for Zain. He's not ready for this level of opponent.
