There has been a change in the ring announcing for the Capital Showdown card. Due to the cancellation of the Wladimir Klitschko-Jean-Marc Mormeck bout in Dusseldorf, Germany, BATB has learned that legendary ring announcer Michael Buffer will now work the card in DC with DC Boxing Hall of Famer Henry "Discombobulating" Jones still working the undercard.
West Coast announcer Joe Martinez will not be a part of this card because of this change.

Is this really such a big deal to anybody other than Jones? why are we still talking about it.
I agree with the above statement,
slaves accept whatever is given to them. HBO/showtime has a monopoly on boxing tv showcases. There should be alternate avenues for folks to see big time fights. I hear Buffer makes 5 million every time he says the catch phase that we have been using for years even before anyone ever heard of buffer. That is something Columbus discovering america with people already here.
Yes, Jones the crybaby will go on and on, but his daddy Michael is now there, so he should STFU!

Jones if it's such a crime that Buffer's anouncing the card, why you doing the under card?
Watch Buffer and watch you, he is just better than you. He looks like a movie star and sounds great and came up with the best catchline in boxing.
It's not a race thing he just better than you. Also he is Hbo's announcer what are they supposed to do everytime they go on the road let the hometown announcer call the main event just to pay homage to the home town?
It's okay you did your thing but your just not the upper echoloen announcer thats all. Now pick your self up , dust of that 100$ tux and go find you a club show in millerville to call...go on now!
Henry should be the announcer for all the bouts.He has paid his dues and this should be his time to shine,and he is very qualified to do so.
All of 5 people care, this is to showcase DC as a legit boxing town to the world and Michael Buffer helps that. He is a STAR and having him here shows that this card is for real.
No disrespect to Henry Jones at all. This is a big card in the boxing world. Micheal buffer just puts the icing on the cake.
ya its like saying lets put larry brothers on the hbo televised part of the show just cause he paid his dues.
Bottom line their both club level guys and dont belong on the big stage.
I guess he is trying the squeaky wheel gets the oil approach.

It would be interesting to hear Henry Jones response to all the negative comments who bring up some points, I would like to hear his rebuttal.
In my opion I think they should let him call the fight just to give it a home town feel.
Henry Jones is a great ring announcer. If you deny that then you don't know what you're talking about. There are only two announcers that I can think of that have "made it" and they are Michael Buffer and Jimmy Lennon, Jr. Buffer was very fortunate to have become associated with the big fight. Many casual boxing fans will expect a "Let's Get Ready To Rumble" catchphrase for every Main Event.
Jimmy Lennon, Jr. is the son of another famous ring announcer Jimmy Lennon, Sr. and as a result he no doubt had the rails greased for entrance to the top level of the sport and appearances on TV. But Lennon is also a full time high school principal. Buffer is the only announcer I can think of that does what he does as a full time job. So the chances of making a career as a Professional Boxing Announcer are even more slim than the chances of making it as a Professional Boxer.
Henry has no doubt endured racism in his life and in his career. He is obviously still carrying the scars of that battle with him. But thankfully I think for the most part those days are over. We only have to look to the White House to see how far we've come as a nation. Not to mention a black Republican candidate in Herman Cain that made one heck of a run until accusations about his personal life brought him down. The times they are a changin'.
Henry Jones hasn't made "it" because there is no "it" to make. Only ONE person in HISTORY has enjoyed financial success as a ring announcer. But he has made "it" if you consider that he is a world class ring announcer who is truly great at what he does. I've promoted some shows that I thought were great with evenly matched and competitive fights in every fight on the show, yet turned out to be losses at the box office. Yet I'm not a full time boxing promoter. I still took pride in those shows and looked upon them as successful.
I'm reminded of a number of great jazz musicians who are extremely talented at what they do, are the best at what they do, yet they never sell any records and never achieve financial success as a musician. Perhaps that's a good analogy for Jones.
Hang in there Henry, keep plugging away and Kill 'Em Saturday Night!
