Recap of Du Burns Card!

Nice night for the locals at Du Burns Arena in Baltimore, MD. In the main event, Baltimore welterweight James "Keep 'Em Sleepin'" Stevenson won a six-round unanimous decision over Jose Angel Roman, now fighting out of Valdosta, GA. Stevenson put some nice combinations together, dropping Roman in the third. When Roman got up, he made a face towards one of the nearby photographers. All three judges (John Gradowski, Don Risher and Paul Wallace) scored the bout 60-53 for Stevenson, who remains undefeated at 15-0, 10 KO's. Roman falls to 11-33-5, five KO's.

In the co-feature, Baltimore super middleweight Maxell "The General" Taylor won by fourth-round disqualification over Rockville, MD's Willis "The Prophet" Lockett Taylor used a series of punches to drop Lockett in the second round. From there, the bottom dropped out for Lockett, who lost two points for holding and eventually disqualified by referee Gary Camponeschi for excessive holding.

Taylor is now 17-3-1, eight KO's while Lockett falls to .500 at 12-12--5, five KO's.

Laurel, MD cruiserweight Venroy "Hard Work" July put together a solid performance winning a six-round unanimous decision over Willie "Blackout" Chisolm of St. Petersburg, FL. July did a nice job of putting his punches together throughout the contest as he pitched a shutout on the judges's scorecards (60-54). July is now 8-0-2, two KO's while Chisolm falls to 6-13, three KO's.

Emanuel "Tranzformer" Taylor was incredibly accurate en route to a third-round knockout over Laurel, MD's Lenwood "Mr. Composure" Dozier. After forcing Dozier into retreat mode for most of the contest, the younger of the Taylor Brothers finished the job in grand style with a devastating two-punch combination that toppled Dozier to the canvas. Dozier could not beat referee Kenny Chevalier's count and the bout was halted at 2:25 of the third.

Taylor remains undefeated at 14-0, 10 KO's. Dozier is 6-3-1, two KO's.

Baltimore cruiserweight "Slick" Nick Kisner kept his unblemished record intact with a four-round unanimous decision over Rayshawn Myers of Cleveland, OH. Kisner was in control for most of the bout and that control forced Myers to try to do a lot of taunting and holding which turned the bout into a messy one to watch. Kisner kept his poise throughout the contest and won the bout 40-36 on two of the scorecards -- the other had it 39-37.

Kisner is also in double figures at 10-0-1, five KO's. Myers falls to 4-10, three KO's.

In the curtain-raising contest, Super middleweight Sherman "Tank" Artis of Baltimore won a four-round majority decision over debuting Lee Snow of Baltimore. Snow managed to land some nice uppercuts in close, but overall, just wasn't active enough to eek the victory out. Artis landed some nice shots from the outside and was just busier than his opponent. Judge Chevalier saw the draw at 38-38 but judges Don Risher and John Gradowski scored the bout for Artis at 40-36 and 39-37 respectively for Artis, who is now 2-0.

United Boxers, in association with Keystone Boxing, promoted the card. The matchmaker was Chris Middendorf.

Dear Anonymous- If you were a good young fighter, what sort of fighter would you want to be fighting? Some undefeated tough guy with a great amateur career? And that fight would most likely be on that guys promoter's card, where the odds would be definitely stacked against you and you would be being paid a reasonable amount as a way to entice you into getting your first loss. Does that make sense?
Or would you rather be fighting at home with your perfect record, in front of some adoring local fans, and be paid less money, but be fighting the sort of opponent that will challenge you and force you ideally to improve your game and learn, so that the next fight you were a little better. And over a period of a year or two, you were allowed to develop your craft to the point that you were as good as you could possibly be, before you were put into an important fight.
Obviously, as you are a critic of how the the best young fighters that are on the United Boxers shows are being promoted, then you would chose going out of town to get paid to get beat.
My recommendation to you then is, go ahead. You will not be missed. For me, I will stick around and watch these young stars turn into champions, and you can just keep bitching and moaning about how good you could have been. Or maybe you will just keep bitching and moaning because of the ass whupping that you will be receiving as someone else's opponent.

I gave the Scores round card girls a rating of a 4.5. If they were starring in a movie it would have had a G-rating. One word girls... Bikinis!

Lose the terrible black rags you were wearing and show the fans some skin. They should have given the promoter some money back or a few lap dances at no charge.

Nick will end up being a decent cruiser weight contender. The sole loss he received was questionable. At that time he was some-what out of shape, he has since trained with more passion. Just because he suffered that one set-back, does not mean he will not be successfull in the sport of boxing. Nick is extremely hard to hit and should make a great come-back. It wasn't like he was hurt that bad. In fact, if he were to fight the same guy again, he would box his ears off. He is no dummy. Nick has since improved tremendously. He will be one to reckon with in the near future.

Sorry for the mistake, I along with everyone else thought that Kisner lost. I keep forgeting that the fight was a draw. I do apologize. I do remember quite clearly when Kisner refused a rematch. Perhaps he wasn't ready at the time, but after Kisner's last outing, I do sincerly believe he would out box the guy now with no problem. After all, the gentleman who beat Kisner had no previous bouts what-so-ever. Including the amateurs. He just happen to catch Kisner on a bad night. I doubt he would land a glove on Kisner if they were to fight again. Kisner would not make the mistake of standing in front of such a hard puncher again like last time. Kisner has no punching power at all, but he can move better than any lightweight I know.
Would like to see him get down to a middleweight where I think he belongs. He would be lighting fast and pick his foes apart. The bigger guys just have too much punching power for the kid.

whatever' let the kid be. let him do his thing. he never did much in the amateurs, but seems to be making a good names for himself in the profession ranks. you and many others are just lealous because he gets the attention that he def. deserves.

I know what Nick Kisner's record is! He is undefeated with the one draw at the DC Star in a fight that he was not ready for. I know for a fact and have tried to make a rematch so that he could avenge that draw. To date that fight has been turned down.
I had the fourth United Boxers fight on Saturday night. I will do at least two more in the area before the end of the year as well as I am working on two shows out west. With all of the shows the intent is the same: showcase the talent of the best young fighters in the area; develop them to the highest level possible by getting them the right opponents at the right time; and then having them fight for real titles at home. And throughout the process developing their fan base in the DMV.

It is a fairly simple formula that I know will work.

This area has always had some of the best talent in the world. To date it has not had a promoter that has tried to develop the fighters and promote them in this manner. Although there always seem to be a large group of non believers on this site, I am hoping that the boxing fans in the area will pick up on how good these young fighters are and follow them. I know the talent is here. It is just a matter of promoting them over time, developing them and developing their fans.

Chris Middendorf/United Boxers said...

Mr. Ward- No one is crying. I will be happy to put on the rematch. And Nick Kisner has said that he would do it as well. I am not doing the card on the 27th, but will certainly be in touch with you regarding making the fight on the next United Boxers card.
