Recap From Millersville!

Here is the full recap from the United Boxers Event at the Maryland Sportsplex in Millersville, MD:

Maxell "The General" Taylor of Baltimore wins by first-round TKO over Capitol Heights, MD's Purcell "Hard Rock" Miller. The bout was stopped at 1:52 of the first. Taylor is now 16-3-1, seven KO's. Miller falls to 23-6-1, 18 KO's.

Baltimore middleweight Jessie "The Beast" Nicklow won a six-round unanimous decision over James "Boogie" Freeman of Vernon, TX. Nicklow won by scores of 59-55 (twice) and 58-56. Nicklow is unbeaten (2-0-1) in his last three bouts
since his 2009 loss to Fernando Guerrero and raises his record to 22-2-3, eight KO's while Freeman drops to 7-4, six KO's.

The younger of the Taylor Brothers, Emanuel, remained undefeated with a six-round unanimous decision over Marcus Brashers of Amarillo, TX. Taylor won by scores of 60-52 and 59-53 (twice). Taylor dropped Brashers twice in the third round. Taylor is now 12-0, nine KO's. Brashers is 8-15-1, two KO's.

In what was his best performance of his young pro career, Ferndale, MD cruiserweight "Slick" Nick Kisner won a six-round unanimous decision over DeLeon Tinsley of Kissimmee, FL. Kisner pitched a shutout (60-54) on all three judges scorecards in going six rounds for the first time in his career, and is now 9-0-1, five KO's. Tinsley is now 9-10-1, five KO's.

Dorsett Barnwell, originally from DC, but now fighting out of Norfolk, VA, won a four-round majority decision over Baltimore heavyweight Riley Brooks. Brooks put on a tough showing but could only get a draw (38-38) on one card. The two other judges saw the bout 40-36 and 39-37 for Barnwell, who remains undefeated at 3-0, two KO's while Brooks falls to 1-2-1, one KO.

The opening bout saw Farrad "The Rose" Price of DC win a four-round unanimous decision in a junior middleweight bout over the equally debuting Damont "Baby" Giddins of Salisbury, MD. Both guys fought a great bout, but Price was able to survive a second-round knockdown to win the bout. All three judges scored the bout 38-37.

There was also a nice exhibition bout between Baltimore boxers Omar "The Machine" Sims and Dale "Hit Hard as Hell" Robeson-El.

United Boxers in association with Keystone Boxing promoted the card. The matchmaker was Chris Middendorf.

We have a loaded BATB Post-Fight Wrap-Up including interviews with Jessie Nicklow, trainer/manager James Hogan and Purcell Miller, along with my guest co-host Alec Kohut of MaxBoxing.com. The show is so loaded that it is in two parts.

SAY WHAT YOU MAY MR. ANONYMOUS I WAS CLEARLY BEATING EVERYONE I FAUGHT UP UNTIL THE POINT I GOT CAUGHT...NEVER THE LESS TONY IS A GOOD FIGHTER AND IS VERY SMART IN HANDLE HIS CAREER.

Well a Nicklow-Jeter fight would be good for the regional scene, I highly doubt it will happen for one reason. The reason being someone has to be willing to pay a fair price for the fight to go on. Neither one of these guys should have to hustle tickets in order to be paid for this fight.

This fight will generate a lot of buzz and a lot of viewers. So if these guys are putting ASSES in the seats they should be paid accordingly. With the current people in this area putting on shows that won't happen anytime soon.

For the record as well Jeter is okay in my book as well. So isn't Nicklow

Nicklow and I sold tickets to fight each other.I think fighters should take pride in the promotion of their fights at this level. It is one of many steps in rebuilding this sport. It should be easy for these guys to make bank selling tix they both have a substantial following.I think if these guys fight no matter what happens they are both winners just for the buzz they will create for themselves.BOXING NEEDS GRUDGE MATCHES!That is why Nicklow and I sold $19,000 between the two of us not counting the other fights or the door. And Jake Smith was kind enough to let us keep 90% of the sales. And he got the concessions off of everyone. It was a win in the business sense for everyone. And Nicklow was kind enough to allow me to fight him.The fight easily doubled my fan base and media coverage off of hype alone.

Gary, no mention of Junior Olympic Regionals at Charm City?

cujo.....keep using aluminum foil on your windows to block out the light and shut the hell up. when you get that rich guy behind you to pay for a real opponent then you should be allowed to voice your opinion! You are a busy body who is in everyone's business. keep to yourself and sell tickets so you can pick your own bums!

Anonymous said...

Yea I dont fight bums my opponents win % is better than Jeter's, Nicklow's,or whoever you want to put against it.Also I have six rich guys not just one.And my next opponent is 13-0
CUJO

Anonymous said...

He may be 13 and 0 but I bet he hasn't fought anyone with a soul! Either that or your 6 rich guys have paid him to lose. I didn't compare you to jeter or rumplestilskin. Neither of them can fight. Jeter could fight back in the day when he had balls. And nicklow well he is just like you.... Sells tickets and gets bums... Hell he fought you didn't he? You guys can play like that on the level around home but sooner or later you will have to fight someone with a heartbeat.

Are you saying Julius Kennedy and Toris Brewer didn't have a pulse?

No one sent me info on the Junior Olympics.

Cujo's list of opponents is full of tough guys and he's beaten most of them. And when he's lost he's learned from the losses. I'll tell you this Tony Jeter certainly wouldn't have fought most of the guys that Cujo has fought. Keep saying Cujo can't fight, then get in the ring with him and you will find out the definition of "drowning in deep water" at some point in the fight.

Hell, Jeter probably still won't fight John Terry much less Jessie or Cujo. I'm not trying to take anything away from Jessie fighting Jeter because I would love to see that fight, but John Terry in shape would whip Tony and probably knock him out! And I'm willing to put my money on Terry! I bet you Jeter wouldn't fight any of the following guys who appear on Cujo's resume:

Farah Ennis
Frankie Fillipone
Ariel Espinal
Jessie Nicklow
Carlton Holland
Toris Brewer
Julius Kennedy
John Terry
Michael Rayner
Tiwon Taylor
Abdul Gilliard
Alex Dill
Billy Johnson

I'm telling you, if Jeter signs to fight Terry, and Terry gets in shape, John will knock his ass out!

And while I'm on a roll, Brian Dillon (I like you Brian, you've always been cool to me), but that comment about "current people in this area putting on shows" and "neither guy should have to hustle tickets" - those comments really show your true lack of knowledge about the boxing BUSINESS in this area. I'm not trying to pick a fight with you, because I like you and you've always been willing to take the heat by signing your name to your comments, but put up $30,000 of your own money, promote some shows, and then come back to me and we'll see if you will make those same comments again. I bet you won't.

Getting back to Jessie vs. Jeter, it wouldn't do Jessie any good beating up on Jeter. I would love it and I'm sure just about everyone not named Jeter would love it also, but everybody else knows he's a bum. Jessie's rating would probably drop after that fight because Jeter is such an inferior opponent. Hell, Mike McFail, as shot as he is, busted Jeter up in their fight.

I want to see Jessie vs. Jeter and I am even willing to sweeten the pot and add to Jeter's purse just to get him in the ring with Jessie. But we tried like crazy, and offered good money, for Jeter to get in the ring with Cujo and that didn't happen. Maybe Jeter will fight Terry and I'll say it again, an in shape John Terry will knock Jeter's ass out! And I'll put my money where my mouth is!

What money? How about your money punk! I'll take your money if you want to put it on Jeter against any of those 3 guys: Cujo, Jessie, even John "The Baptist" Terry! All 3 will whip Jeter! That money Jerk!

Was Jeter even on this card? Why isn't everyone talking about the fighters on the card instead of jeter? If Jeter is a bum and can't fight a lick then why is everyone talking about him?

Anonymous said...

The sad and very unfortunate part about all of this is that jeter can actually fight. The guy was a hell of an amateur fighter. He turned pro and got stopped in a fight and that took his heart. I truly believe that if jeter applied himself entirely to a fight with either guy he would box circles around the always in shape cujo who can't fight a lick, who to his credit comes to fight but there is so many things that happen behind closed doors with fights like his. And nicklow. Come on a midget with short ass arms and who should be fighting as a welterweight at heaviest....no need to compare. Wouldn't even be a fight IF jeter applied himself and got right mentally!

Brian said...

Joe Hensley, I to do like you and respect you I won't take offense to what you say. My comments are just that. I think fighters have far more to worry about than selling tickets to get on a show.

I always felt the landscape down here was a little different than were I came from and what I have been exposed to around the country. My point was it seems down here if you don't sell you don't get on. That is dead wrong. I do have the knowledge about he way it goes down here. I think its bad for fighters, but if they want to sell then let them sell. I understand about putting up your own money and losing your shorts, but if your doing it right than you can break even or make a few dollars. Sponsorships, advertising, cutting budgets in half and getting rid of useless expenditures can go along way.

But Joe this isn't about our difference of opinion its about JETER-NICKLOW and neither should have to flip the bill.

Joe H borrowed 5 grand from me in 2008 to buy a car. He said he would pay me in 3 months after a Major League Boxing show. After the show he didn't pay and he still hasn't paid me. He has lied to my face a dozen times about paying me back. Don't believe any of the hot air he's blowing on this site. Hensely is a good for nothing bum.

I AGREE WITH YOU BRIAN WHO BY THE WAY IS A REAL DECENT HUMAN BEING.

Brian,

What you are saying makes perfect sense, in a perfect world that is. That is one where promoters promote and fighters fight. I know it's horrible for a fighter to train as hard as many of them train, and then have to turn around and sell tickets to get on a show. And I do sympathize with that, I really do. A huge part of the problem is the hard costs a boxing promoter must pay to a commission. Their fees and percentages are way out of scale considering the amount of money promoters are actually making, or should I say losing, on a show. When you consider licenses, gate fees, event fees, bond, medical tests, event liability, and insurance - commission costs are up to 40% of a show's budget, and that's just not right. It is another example of our government run amok. You have to ask yourself, "Why does the government regulate professional boxing anyway?" Think about that one for a second. Do they regulate Major League Baseball? Do they regulate the NFL or the NBA? No! It's a very valid question to ask as an American citizen and as a businessman who is in business to turn a profit. When the baseball players were on Capitol Hill during the steroid scandal, I for one, thought it was a huge waste of our tax dollars. Our country is trillions of dollars in debt and we're spending money talking to millionaire baseball players about steroids? And we're spending money by regulating professional boxing? It's just not right. The government needs to be downsized and start by cutting some of the wasteful spending that has been going on for years. They can start by getting rid of all the state boxing commissions and let the private sector handle it. Just like the NBA, NFL, and Major League Baseball. Now what the heck is wrong with that? Unless you think just because someone works for the government they can regulate our sport better than we can ourselves. And if you think that, then what the hell is wrong with you?

I have no way to answer that. I know about all the costs, site fee, promoters license, insurance bond, event permits, liquor license, doctors, emt's, purses, advertisements the costs are endless and although it may offset some of the cost incurred I still feel fighters shouldn't have to hustle.

Green River will punish Cujo. Can he still make 175lbs is the question.

Anonymous said...

Joe I believe that if you let the private sector regulate boxing then it really will become a monopoly on the small scale just like the bigger promoters. You make alot of valid points but I just think it would really become
even more corrupt with out Marshall Dillon and Miss Kitty running things.

I liked it better when Hensley was on sabbatical. The last time he went silent was after he embarrassed himself by trying to pass himself off as a boxer. Be more professional, Joe.

what are you talking about Sigmon?
you talk to him on the phone and you probobly have something set up with him already.I remember someone saying he went to one of your fights and called you out and you cowered down like a scalled puppy. You had your chance and you chose not to take it and now after you know he has moved and not fighting anymore you start talking trash again.
You need some class and you can't be taught that you have to be born with it.

Quicker than John Terry!
What kind of comment is that?
Everyone who knows anything knows you brought John Terry to the fights and paid him. Please stop with your nonsense.A good fight for you would be Zain Shah. All he would have to do is eat a good breakfast so he could weigh a little more and the fight is on.
I would pick Shah by third round stoppage.

Anonymous said...

Why do people talk about Jeter? He is old, has a glass jaw and has never, ever, not once fought an opponent on Nicklow or Sigmon's level. He is known amongst commissioners as the biggest whiner in the state, won't fight anyone unless they are upside down.

I don't understand why Cujo doesn't work on his punch mechanics. He still slap/push punches with very little relative power. Take some time off, start from ground zero and learn the right way. If Cujo doesn't tear it down and build it back up, he will get throttled when he finally steps up in competition.

Giddings had it and just didnt pull through with it. Brooks i thought won slightly or atleast deserved a draw. Looks like he came to fight this time, and fought hard. Barnwell gased out before brooks did. Again i thought at least a draw or for brooks slightly. Kisner looked excellent by keeping his undeafeated record, with a shut out win over a good journeyman who held wins over lou devalle and alfredo escalera jr both. and for it being Kisners first 6 rounder he didnt fade at all. and its like discombabulating jones said when announcing kisner. He is 8-0 with 1 disputed draw. now that gives him his 9th win, and overall boxing carrer 100th win. excellent performance. i think everyone agrees a cruiserweight world title one day. Little Taylor looked sharp with a good opponent in front of him. Taylor is sharp and knows how to keep an excellent pressure but be very patient and counter it perfect as well also. Very strong performance. Nicklow did not look that well to me in which is usually the case with him. It seems like there is always a certain magic he doesnt have to him, and that guy was nothing, and he made Nicklow look bad. Looks like nicklow is stale, and thats all i got to say. Big Taylor looked excellent and came out with a beautiful 1st round ko, over a notable guy. Good bounce back win for Taylor after being stopped by Donovan George. So on the Taylors and Kisner's part they all had excellent strong performances. I see little Taylor, and Kisner bcoming world champion one day. Wouldnt that make bmore look great. Another way to prove we are still better then Virginia!!!!!!!!
