I don't know if Lopez is from DC. Never heard of him before, but the only L a DC Open boxer took is from another DC boxer. Boy, I'll say it a million times, but we have some of the best boxers in the country in this area. Can't wait to see them all mature and grow into their craft. I'm just excited to watch it all unfold. We are representing the DMV well.

That is a big win for Odom beating Shabazz. Shabazz is in the WSB and boxed in their test event in Baku. There is an article on him on the WSB website. Congrats Jerry.

The light welterweight division featured one of the match-ups of the day as 2010 National Golden Gloves champion Gary Allan Russell III (Capitol Heights, Md.) faced off with 2010 USA Boxing National Championships silver medalist Michael Reed (Waldorf, Md.) in a Washington DC area showdown. The bout lived up to its billing with punches flying from bell-to-bell. Reed seemed to have the bout in hand after the second, taking a 7-2 lead into the final round. Yet Russell came flying back in the final stanza, pulling the bout to within one point in the final minute before Reed extended his lead en route to a 12-9 final decision. 2010 National Champion Pedro Sosa (Bronx, N.Y.) pulled out a 3-2 victory over Ace’son LeSuere (Corpus Christi, Texas) to move on to the quarterfinal round as well.
