Max Boxing Gives Lange A 'Post-Reality Check!'

Alec Kohut of MaxBoxing.com recently talked to Great Falls, VA junior middleweight Jimmy Lange as he gets ready for his Saturday, July 10 bout against Jimmy LeBlanc at the George Mason University Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA.

The interview comes as Lange tries to bounce back from his loss to Chase Shields earlier this year.

UPDATE: The Larry Brothers-Jonathan Reid bout is off the card. The Virginia Commission would not sanction the bout.

Guess Dave is running scared with the few people raising so much hell.Or should I say stirring so much shit.

"Larry would have kicked that bama's ass! He punked out."

Are you kidding? Compare the records of Reid and Brothers. If you saw Reid's performance against Jimmy Lange, and Brothers' performance against Anthony Bonsante, you wouldn't be saying that.

While Reid-Dog has had a tough post-Contender road, he gave Lange a lot more than anybody I know bargained for.

I was looking forward to watching Reid find redemption at the Patriot Center next week and will miss that matchup.

The commissioner did the right thing by not sanctioning this fight.. He would have definitely been looked at awkwardly if he allowed this fight to happen.

So now, the heat is off the commissioner. We need to now take a look at the promoters for actually wanting to make this fight happen that was basically going to be Larry Brother's date of death.... What promoter in their right mind would propose this fight??

According to Kohut's article Lange's success is the result of "Just good old fashioned, boots-on-the-ground marketing" then what are they paying Brotman, Winter, and Fried for? And I do agree with that by the way. Johnny Lange sells all the tickets to the show, not Brotman.

Reid vs. Brothers should have been sanctioned because they both have lost a lot of fights in a row. What should not have been sanctioned is Reid vs. Lange or Brothers vs. Fillipone, Mackey, Jordan, Rivera (all of which were fought in Virginia). Brothers has lost 9 in a row. Reid has lost 8 in a row. Brothers went the distance in 6 of the 9 losses. Reid went the distance in 4 of the 8 losses, albeit against better opposition. IMO the bout should have been sanctioned for a limited number of rounds. It should have been made a 4 round fight.

Dave Holland is universally disliked by every promoter that I am familiar with in the state of Virginia. The man, Holland, is beyond rude and arrogant, he is a jerk of biblical proportions (and I am being kind in that assesment). He is also incompetent and in his current position, a detriment and impediment to the growth of boxing and MMA in the Commonwealth of Virginia. He has done things that other boxing commissioners would never dream of doing if they wanted to keep their job. The problem is, nobody in Virginia has been putting him under a microscope. Nobody has really taken him on. That has changed, things are in process now, you will not know what they are until Holland is removed from office. At that point, I am sure Digital Williams will do a follow up on all the details. I will give you a little hint though. Holland sanctioned a fight without actually weighing the fighter! And that is probably one of his lesser offenses! Asta La Vista Davey!

I'm wondering if refusing to sanction Reid vs. Brothers was a "ham sandwich cancelation." Ie, after at least one other state refused to sanction Lange vs. LeBlanc, this was a pre-emptive strike to refute charges that "even a ham sandwich could get sanctioned to box in Virginia."?

Did you see Lange vs. Reid? While there's no question that Reid had taken incredible punishment by the time he didn't answer the bell for the next round, Reid delivered an awful lot of punishment to Lange as well.

Did Lange dominate? Yes. Was it a mismatch? No.

I recall Digital remarking in his post-fight wrapup how deceptive it can be when you try to predict the quality of a fight based soley on the fighters' records.

you can not always judge a fighter period. One day he may feel great and put on one hell of a fight and the next day feel like shit and not produce at all.
Buster Douglas VS Mike Tyson Douglas felt great and looked great.

And to the first 7/4 Anon, look at Punisher-Quintana: Paul lost the first 1, TKO in round 1 in the second.

Larry,

I am sorry I ripped you off and many other fights like Dana Dunston too back in the day. Please forgive me!

Lange-LeBlanc was not sanctioned in those other states, due to Leblanc being on suspension until April 2010

We've been down this road many times before. Lange is a tough guy, works hard, and has no quit in him. But he's always been matched in a benficial way, has never beaten anyone of note, and has lost to suspect fighters along the way.

We have been down this road before. I'll say simply that if beneficial matching were all it took, then you'd have a bunch of fighters headlining arena shows in DC/MD/VA.

One can quibble about how many thousand have come out to various Patriot Center shows. But you just don't see other headliners around here who regularly break the four-digit attendance mark.

How manmy of those people do you think pay for a ticket?
answer it honestly if you can.
This is meant for Nicholson.

How many tickets you think John Lange would give away? read Alec article, someone has to pay for the Patriot Center. I have been around John awhile and it would be safe to say he is not filling up the patriot Center with free seats.

Take Care

So nobody wants to pay to watch your kid fight, and you give away tickets to fill seats.

Surprisingly, you don't make money. So what's the solution? You book an entire arena.....end up giving away even more freebies.....and repeat 10 times?

That's called stimulus plan economic logic. It only makes sense when the government does it.
