March 20th Card Unfolding!

The Baltimore Pro Boxing card slated for Saturday, March 20th at Du Burns Arena in Baltimore will feature two East Coast Title bouts and a number of bouts that Beltway Boxing fans want to see. Here's a quick rundown of the scheduled card.

The main event will be a 10-round contest for the East Coast Middleweight title as Baltimore's Jessie "The Beast" Nicklow (19-2-2, seven KO's) will take on Bedford, VA's Scott "Cujo" Sigmon (8-1, three KO's).

The co-feature is another 10-round contest for the East Coast Junior Middleweight title -- undefeated James "Keep 'Em Sleepin'" Stevenson of Baltimore (12-0, 10 KO's) battles Fluvanna, VA's George "Wartime" Rivera (11-4, four KO's).

In an eight-round encounter, undefeated Baltimore welterweight Emmanuel "Transformer" Taylor (4-0, four KO's) will battle veteran Doel Carrasquillo of Lancaster, PA (12-14-1, 10 KO's). The bout will be Taylor's first scheduled eight-round encounter.

In a six-round rematch bout, Baltimore heavyweight "The American Dream" Mike Dietrich (12-1, six KO's) faces the only man that has defeated him -- Wes Taylor of Atlanta, GA (7-15-1, seven KO's). In their last outing on April 18, 2008 at the Pikesville Armory, Taylor scored a third-round knockout over Dietrich.

There are also some solid four-round bouts on the card. Ferndale, MD heavyweight "The American Child" Nick Kisner (1-0) will face Baltimore heavy Kevin "The Journeyman" Johnson (3-3, two KO's) whose debut victory came over Kisner's father, Danny.

Chantilly, VA middleweight Zain "The Tiger" Shah (2-0, two KO's) will battle Omar Sims of Baltimore (3-2-3, one KO) in another four-rounder. Also, the card will mark the return of undefeated Alexandria, VA lightweight Todd "White Lightning" Wilson (6-0, one KO) as he takes on DC veteran Ron "Teflon" Boyd (6-10, two KO's).

Also, DC heavyweight Maurice "Freight Train" Byarm (6-0, four KO's) is slated to be on this card, against an opponent TBA.

We'll talk more about this card in the weeks to come.

Brian what are your predictions for the main event.

Anonymous said...

GOOD QUESTION FOR BRIAN????

Jessie will outbox Cujo! It is sad to see this fight. Cujo and Joe should be ashamed of this. Fight someone your own size boy.

gary whats up with the joe gans
thing feb 26 in baltimore you know anything about it.

My prediction is Nicklow UD. It will be interesting to see if Nicklow can keep Sigmon off him. Sigmon will come in bigger and should try try to muscle Jessie. I think at this moment Nicklow is a notch or two above Sigmon in the experience category.

Both guys will be in shape. I think that 160 might be a little too low for Sigmon. He can make the weight but how much will it take out of him?

He appears to be a really tight 168to 170. All predictions aside we just have to wait and see!

I kind of feel singled out in regards to prediction. Oh well no biggie. I am amped to see Rivera against Stevenson.

WOW! What a great show top to bottom! Really looking forward to this one!

i think jessie will knock out the big mouth.

I will be posting something about the Joe Gans tribute later this week. It will be at the Sports Legends Museum in Baltimore. I did mention something about that in a recent Post-Fight Wrap-Up. I believe the last one from Glen Burnie.

I think this is the single best card I've seen in our area. Every fight is for real. Rivera vs. Stevenson takes the cake though. George has skills to go with Stevenson, but will his chin stand up? Nicklow will beat Cujo. Guess there was no choice but to step Manny up. Cards like this aren't often even if a couple fall through. What happened to Rivera vs Cecil?

i hope all the matches come thru.it looks great on paper.

Manny had to take the fight, no one else would fight the guy apparently. Wanna bet on the outcome?

I like all these fights and this is THE card of the year if all the fights happen!

Cujo vs. Jesse - I think Cujo is too strong and Jesse has seen his better days. Cujo by KO in mid to late rounds.

Rivera vs. Stevenson - we'll find out if Stevenson is for real or not. Speaking of real, if the real Rivera shows up he will win the fight.

Taylor vs. Doel - this fight could look like a one sided shellacking and then all of a sudden BOOM! Carasquillo catches Taylor with that big bomb of his. It's going to happen somewhere in the fight and if Taylor can take it and come back firing, he will win and maybe even stop Doel. But Doel is a dangerous enough puncher to where he can literally compete with anybody and everybody. Very interesting fight and don't take your eyes off of it for even one second, even if it's a one sided beating b/c that's all Doel really needs. UPSET - I'll take Doel by mid round KO.

Dietrich and Taylor - I honestly don't know. Maybe Taylor has Mike's number. He certainly knocked him out badly in their first fight. Mike should win, but like their first fight, who really knows?

Kisner vs. Johnson - the final cards have already been tabulated 40 to 36 across the board for Kisner.

Shah vs. Sims - should be fun

Wilson vs. Boyd - interesting fight. Is Wilson just a protected guy or can he fight a little bit?

Great card Jake! On paper the card of the year. Let's hope it lives up to what we expect and it is the show of the year!

Sound's like a decent card, but when are these boxer's going to step on a national stage and fight people that are ranked in the top thirty and try to fight toward's a championship? Why fight in Maryland and Virginia all against people you fought in the amatuer's? I think our area boxer's need to step up and fight against better competition' thier never going to compete for a championship fighting against this competition. Boxer's like Daniel Jacobs, Shawn Porter, Dominic Wade, and Gary Russell just turned pro and are all ready known around the country because they box all over the country, i feel sorry for E. Taylor he should be fighting on the same level as these guy's, instead of this B.S. around Maryland.

Gary Digital Williams said...

The boxers will fight someone in the top 30 when someone feels they are ready to do so.

The names you mentioned -- Jacobs, Estrada, Russell and Wade. All four of them were amateur superstars and two of them (Estrada and Russell) made the Olympic team.

Taylor, even with a great amateur background, didn't quite reach that level. But look who he's scheduled to go against on March 20 --Doel Carrasquillo, a guy who has given a number of our Beltway guys some difficulty.

Carrasquillo has fought Bayan Jargal (who eventually did stop Carrasquillo after a tough six-round bout) and Tim Coleman (who was tested and looked good over eight rounds).

For Taylor after just four bouts to take on someone like Carrasquillo is a major step that could elevate Taylor a lot closer to that top 30.

Gary Digital Williams said...

I haven't heard about Russ coming back on this show, but a bout between Shiflett and Maurice Byarm would be very interesting!

Anonymous said...

Hey Digital I understand your point, but my point is that these guy's need to box outside of this area, even in the amatuer's you have guy's who only box locally and when they do get into a national tournament they get embarrased. I look at guy's like Ty Barnett, chop chop, even Snow, they were good amatuer's just like E. Taylor, the difference is they signed with someone who got them fight's in different part's of the country and got them exposure. If you look at Ty Barnett's record he has rarely fought in this area giving him more exposure, it seem's like you have the boxer's that are serious about competing and the boxer's that are satisfied with these local grudge matches that don't amount to anything. And this guy Carrasquillo is a journey man he has lost his last seven fight's, i dont think that proves anything, E. Taylor should have atleast seven to eight fight's by now, and should have been boxing out of town getting exposure, he was nationally known on the amatuer circuit.

Any news on Rivera vs Mccalla not happening? I thought it was suppose to.

People saw the fight was gonna happen with Rivera & McCalla, So other people start persuing the fight with Pete & Cut-Throat Cecil McCalla by telling Rivera Camp that Cecil didnt want the Fight which was a TOTAL LIE! I am from Va. so I know the TRUTH! Boxing is a dirty game!

Anyone who can find a reason to complain about this card is a cry baby. The fighters don't choose where they fight. This card will set up who's gonna make it outside our area. I'm just excited to see this many quality fights on one card.

manny taylor, will beat everybody

HEY GUY'S I OVER HEARD A STRONG CONVERSATION,DOWN AT CITY HALL,
ABOUT OUR MD BOXING COMMISSINER,
AND A LOCAL PROMOTOR,AND IT WAS
VERY UGLY AND PAPER'S WHERE LOOKED
OVER AND IT WAS A LOT OF FACT'S
IT WILL BE A FEW NEW FACES IN THE
AUDIENCE.SO WHO EVER IT IS
CLEAN UP YOUR DIRT.

I like this card, a good local card that will be priced appropriately. Really looking forward to seeing to seeing Stevenson, I like this fight for him.
To set the record straight, I love these local fight nights. I just hate when someone takes a local fight night, and tries to charge me World Championship prices.
At $100 ringside and good seats at $50-$60, excellent value, I'll be there!

Alec Kohut said...

I also love the fact that a guy with 6 fights is nicknamed "Journeyman", classic.

Anonymous said...

To Noxious what do you mean the fighter's don't choose where they fight. If you sign with a good management team and a good promoter they will put you in fight's all over the country. How are these guy's going to choose where they fight if they win on this card? It doesn't work like that, these guy's will still be around here fighting each other. True this is a good card for this area, but none of these guy's are pushing thier career toward a championship or most importantly national notoriety, that's all i'm stating.

Anonymous said...

And to Alec Kohut yes Carrasquillo is a journeyman have you checked his record, he has lost his last seven fights, is a below 500. fighter, i think that qualifies for journeyman.

Anonymous said...

Is Jimmy Lang pushing his career to "national notoriety" fighting the likes of Chase Shields, Johnathan Reed, Grover Wiley and whoever else? There are lots of good fighters on the show and lots of good fights and we get to see em unlike the "national fights" your referring to.

Anonymous said...

why would they be talking about a promoter and commish at city hall when its regulated by the state?
sounds like bullshit

NOXIOUS said...

What I'm saying is fighters get offered fights. They can take them or refuse them. But the winner of George and Pete will most likely be getting offers from other places. Most likely for better pay. At which point they can take them or refuse them. When a local promoter matches local fighters he can sell tickets to both sides, so it's win win for him. Most fighters get offered a decent pay day out of town when they are undefeated but there are times to take fights of that nature and time wait. My point is to support the local fighters until they make it to the next platform. All the match ups on March 20 are high risk high reward.

Anonymous said...

Noxious, you're a sharp guy. Who are you anyway? Involved in the game, work with a commission, fan, what?

Alec Kohut said...

I am impressed with Taylor going to 8-rounds, and stepping up in competition in just his 5th fight. Risky, but very impressive, have to give him big props for that.
And Stevenson stepping up as well to 10 rounds, and also fighting a tough competitor.
This is what boxing is all about, guys working toward becoming legitimate contenders.

NOXIOUS said...

I'm involved with the game, but basically just a spectator that thinks with his head and not his heart. (As Digital would say) I think many people fail to respect this sport for what its really worth.

Joe Hensley said...

There are people on here who write something and then sign my name to it and have done so many times. For that reason I have gotten an account and any posts that are made by me will show my name as written above. I also added a picture to my profile, so if you don't see my name in blue, along with this picture. I didn't say it.

This is a great show Jake Smith has put together and we are glad to be a part of it. Cujo will be fighting at this weight from now on and making the weight will not be a problem. Jesse Nicklow is a good fighter but we like the matchup and Cujo has what it takes to beat him. George Rivera is really looking forward to the challenge of Stevenson. George is going to impress a lot of people on March 20th against a good opponent. Todd Wilson is also fighting and we're looking for another good performance from him. All three guys have been getting great sparring and are working hard to put in winning performances on March 20th and we are glad to be going back to Baltimore once again.

That’s funny! You can have an account and still sign in under anonymous JOEY. You are smart but not smart enough to fool the blog SCUM BAG. Cant wait to see you in Baltimore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, that's true. But now nobody can post something under my name and say that I wrote it. If you don't see my name in blue and this picture, I didn't say it. We'll see you in Baltimore too and we're looking forward to it!

nicklow vs sigmon= nicklow verry close decision 6-4

stevenson vs rivera= stevenson easy decsion 8-2

kisner vs johnson= kisner very easy 4 rd. decision or stopage cuz of the cut that he had against dietrich and july

zain shaw vs omar simms= good close fight but im taking shaw by 3rd ko cuz of his explosive right hand

ron boyd vs todd wilson= im taking wilson by ko only cuz he can punch a lil bit and boyd cant take a punch but boyd can fight and hes tall and lengthy

jake this a great show thank you so much... i cant wait for the weigh in for sigmon and nicklow it might be a fight b 4 a fight

Alec Kohut said...

To whichever "anonymous" commented on my finding irony in a fighter nicknamed "Journeyman."
I was referring to Heavyweight Kevin Johnson (3-3) who's fighting Kisner, and is nicknamed "The Journeymen" with only 6 fights. I was not referring to Carasquillo.

Alec Kohut said...

I kinda like Joe H., people seem to hate him even more than they hate me.
