Lange-Duddy Could Happen in June, Says ESPN.com!

For Great Falls, VA junior middleweight Jimmy Lange, a victory against Chase Shields on Saturday, March 6 at the George Mason University Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA could mean more than just his second defense of his WBC USNBC Junior Middleweight title.

According to Dan Rafael of ESPN.com, Lange is being mentioned as a future opponent for New York-based contender John Duddy. Many things will have to fall into place.

Duddy (28-1, 18 KO's) is slated to be on the March 13 Manny Pacquiao-Joshua Clottey card in Dallas, TX. Should Duddy get past his yet-to-be named opponent, promoter Bob Arum says Lange could be next, should he get past Shields, on June 12 in Madison Square Garden in New York City.

If everything comes together, there could be two Beltway Boxers on the June 12 card. Earlier, Arum mentioned that Lamont Peterson could be the opponent for Kendall Holt if Holt wins his February contest.

Interesting. A good move up, Duddy has seen better days, and his conditioning isn't the best. A big win could put Lange right into the mix!

This fight probably won't happen because Lange can make the same money fighting Chase Shields or Jonathan Reid or Grover Wiley in Virginia that he can make fighting Duddy in New York. The Duddy-Lange fight would not be on the televised portion of the show and therefore big money can't be paid for the fight. Simple boxing economics. The only way it could happen would be for Lange to feel that a win over Duddy would propel hm to a huge fight and maybe it can. Did a win over Duddy do wonders for Billy Lyell's career? Maybe. After he beat Duddy, he had a couple of stay busy wins and now Lyell is fighting for the IBF title over in Germany and probably making some decent scratch. But Lyell has to win that fight and then maybe he'll get a bigger fight. So I would say that if Lange vs. Duddy does happen, Lange would have to put a string of wins together after a Duddy fight should he beat Duddy. Good luck to him!

First for the record let me state that I don't buy it. I can't see Jimmy Lange going from fighting the likes of Frank Houtaling, Fontaine Cabell, and Johanthan Reid to fighting a top 25 contender. He's fighting Chase Shields who is ranked #281 by Boxing Rec. We are to believe beating #281 will vault him to fighting #24 middleweight in Duddy.

But...if this turns out to be true, and Lange beats Shields then agrees to fight Duddy, Lange will have earned the respect that comes with fighting to win a title and being contender. At that point, win or lose, my hat will be off to Jimmy and Lange Camp.

Now, if this rumor is true, the ball is the Lange Camp's court. Either move up to try to contend for title, or you will be considered a regional fighter, just in it for the money.

I hope the Lange Camp tries to grab the brass ring, pride is on the line.

Chase Shields is terrible. Period. Lange portrays himself as a fighter, but he does not fight anyone. I doubt that he would fight Duddy even if it was offered to him.Duddy would blow him out of the ring and Duddy is not that hot either.

All of you haters crack me up,none of you would step in the ring with jimmy for a minute,i think the fight will happen and duddy will be the one on the garden canvas

Who's a hater?
I call it like I see it.
Fighting the likes of Thomas Wilt, Fontaine Cabell & Frank Houtaling does absolutely nothing towards becoming a contender.
I hope Jimmy and the Lange camp jump at this opportunity. The endless parade of tomato cans at the Patriot Center is getting old.

Alec,

It doesn't matter who he fights at the Patriot Center, they are just buying a ticket from Johnny to see Jimmy fight. It doesn't matter who it is. I'm not saying he's hot shit (b/c he's not) and I'm not saying he's a legit world class boxer (b/c he's not) but he has a loyal fan base of around 3,000 people or so that come out to watch him fight. It's no different than watching your favorite TV show or checking out a movie with your favorite actor. It's the entertainment business, it's not all about the sport of boxing. He's got a following, they are making money and good for them. But he can't fight and everybody who knows a jab from a hook knows it.

So where do we disagree??

I'm not a hater, I just know Lange is not that good. And that's okay b/c in boxing you get to pick who you fight, there is no schedule like football or baseball. So to Lange and his camp, keep running your business well and keep doing what you're doing. And as far as a fight with Duddy goes, and Duddy is far from a world beater himself, he will beat Jimmy Lange so bad that I would actually be afraid for Jimmy if that fight were to happen. Duddy will hurt Jimmy and he will hurt him bad.

There is talk of Duddy boxing Matt Korobov who fought for Russia in the '08 Olympics. Korobov vs Duddy will be a lot better to watch than Lange-Duddy. Duddy would get more money to fight Korobov especially in New York but he probably won't win as Korobov is a future world champ who needs to step up. Duddy fighting Lange does not do much for his career other than a win. On the other hand, if Duddy fights Lange and loses, it will help Langes career.

The Korobov-Duddy fight may be the one that Bob Arum is talking about for Dallas on March 13.

Simply speculation, but if Duddy takes a fight with Korobov in March and wins, Lange may be seen as a step towards a title for Duddy.

I don't think Duddy can beat Korobov. Korobov was 2x world amateur champ, 2 x world cup champ but lost a close decision in the '08 Olympics to the '04 Olympic 152 lb gold medal winner who had moved up to 165. Everyone thought Korobov would win the Olympic gold. He's the real deal and can bang. But if Duddy beat Korobov, IMO, Lange would be a tune up fight for a title not a step up.

I CANT WAIT FOR THE TUNEUP,YOU KEEP FORGETTING THAT JIMMY HAS MORE WINS AND MORE FIGHTS THAN DUDDY AND A WHOLE LOT MORE KNOCKOUTS,BELIEVE ME DUDDY WILL THINK HARD BEFORE HE GETS IN THE RING WITH JIMMY BECAUSE OF TOUGHNESS AND MOST OF ALL HIS LONG REACH!

step in the ring with jimmy for a minute? dude he fights the trash sitting on my curb, dont revert to the old "u dont box so dont say anything" mantra...he fights hand picked garbage, bottom line. Duddy would walk through him! and like somebody else said, Duddy aint a world beater.
