Holy Smoke!!! Looks like another team trophy for DC MD area.
Even two boxers in the 12-13 year old class have won national Silver Glove titles before. Looking the the 14-15 year old class, you see nothing but boxers who are known all over the country. More than half have won national titles in the Silver Gloves. Watching the fighters box on youtube, I can easly see the losers in DC and MD are most likely second in the country. In other words, they too could have won it all. All of these boxers can be seen on DCAMATEURBOXING. I grew up in Idaho and we have nothing like this back home. This is amazing. All these top notch boxers out of one area.

parish was unnaposed and Demtrious will fil a vacant spot at 147.

Meat will not go at 147!!! He lost already and he is a Man about this entire ordeal. He refuses to take a back door into the Silvers.

DON"T BLAME HIM AT ALL! I TOO WOULD RATHER WIN MY WAY IN. HELL< IF YOU CANNOT WIN AT HOME,YOU WILL NEVER WIN AWAY. PLUS 147 IS JUST TOO DAMN BIG. THOSE 147 POUNDERS WALK AROUND AT 160 AND ARE DAMN NEAR SIX FOOT TALL>

Rocky Marciano did it.

Pug Thug, that's some good unbiased feeback. A lot of people don't know how much talent we have around here. DC is always well represented at most national tournaments. Good luck to all our guys, because that's what they are now OUR guys--representing the area.

BTW, Rock Warden lost at 139 in DC Silvers two years ago and went in empty slot at 156 and made it to the NATIONAL FINALS!!! Finished #2 in the United States at two weight classes higher and about a foot shorter than all opponents. Don't doubt DC boxers. Sometimes getting out of DC is the hardest part of national tournaments.

Thank You! I admit you dudes are doing something right. Especially since so many different gyms are involved. I am curious though; how does one boxer lose and still be in the tournament? I was always under the impression that if you lose, you must wait until the following year to compete again.
Furthermore, 139 to 156 is one hell of a weight jump in such a short period of time. Seems to me that the power and strength difference is just too much to handle.(for a 14/15 year old) From the look of DCAMATEURBOXING fights, these kids pack a punch, so I'd be somewhat worried that the smaller guy would get hurt. Espeially since a 147 pounder comes down from 160 to make his sign in weight the day before.I do give credit for the bravery. Good Luck to all of you.

they weighin same day.
and the kid they r talking about
can handle it. he spars bigger guys in gym all the time. he boxes professiopnal champs 2. he won hole silve gloves before. i seen tape from saturday nite. helost-but did not get beat that bad. wait til next year i bet $$$$ he dont lose again. he come from best gym in dc.

If we have an open spot going to Regionals, boxers that lost in championship of division under usually get to fill that spot if they want. Otherwise another boxer can be selected. So we have slot open at 14/15 147lbs. that needs to be filled. If a boxer loses at 14/15 139lbs. he may be able to go in different weight division.

even though we all compete against each other locally, all the boxers can get as much sparring as they want against other gyms and it shows. not a lot of areas work together like that well. I've heard in CA and TX, the gyms don't really work with each other because the competition to get out of the area is so fierce. I may have a kid from my gym that needs sparring from a kid in your gym (who will be in another weight division of course). However, if you have another boxer that may be in my boxers division, I may not get that sparring. So basically, I'm may not get sparring because my boxer will be facing the potential sparring partners team mate. It happens, but around here there is enough work to go around.

what kid won two silvers? Rock never won nationals and neither did Demetrius. Maybe you mean they won the DC silvers and obviously Rock did but I don't think Demetrius did. You can watch the 139lb-er fightint at 152 on youtube. Just search Chris Warden National Silver Gloves.

Ten and eleven year-olds fighting at 150? Twelve and thirteen year-olds fighting at 200+? What are they feeding these kids?!

It sounds like DC has an awful lot of rising talent. Good luck to all, and I look forward to more than a couple of these names coming up as Golden Gloves winners over the next several years.

Golden Gloves doesn't pay any money or give you automatic berth to US Championships. USA pays $1000 for a year to all winners. I want to see these names at USA. Forget the Golden Gloves. It's not a ranking tournament anymore people. You get no points and no money. haha. USA Tournament is the ticket now. Maybe if GGs stops having 6 weeks of shows that could fit into 2 and stops w/ the $30 and $50 tickets, a lot more boxers would compete in it. Just my two cents.

Hello Hater! You have no idea what you are talking about. Rules have changed:The next Olympics are in 2012 and will be in England. Your chances of making the US Olympic boxing team are pretty slim. Most of the boxer who qualify will have had at least 9 years, or more, experience at the local, national and international levels. Since you just signed up, it will probably take 6 months to a year (I'm counting training before you have your first bout) to become an "open" boxer (11 or more recorded bouts). This would leave you approximately 2+ years to try and make the Olympic team. To qualify for the Olympic Trials, you would have to win one of the following: the National PAL, National Golden Gloves, the Eastern, Western or Midwestern Trials; win or runner up at the U.S. Championships.

Since the first Golden Gloves tournament in 1923, the Golden Gloves of America, Inc. and its member franchises have provided an opportunity and environment for young athletes to develop lifetime skills. Hundreds of dedicated administrators, coaches, trainers and counselors have unselfishly spent countless times and effort to assist young people in the development of personal character and athletic skills. The Golden Gloves program has led the way in promoting amateur boxing in the United States and has produced the majority of competitors for America’s boxing teams in the Pan-Am and Olympic Games.

OK MAN WE BELIEVE YOU! I THOUGHT ALSO THAT GOLD GLOVES WAS MOST IMPORTANT. THEY BEEN AROUND LONG TIME:

Yeumeyer, not sure who u are addressing, but reread my post. Last year GG does NOT advance you to USA Championship: http://usaboxing.org/news/2009/03/04/the-2009-national-golden-gloves-will-not-serve-as-a-qualifier-for-the-2009-usa-boxing-national-championships/10265

So, if an open class fighter has to decide between the USA Tourney or GG, the USA is much better because 1) LBCs are paying for travel of boxers to national tournament and 2) the winners get $1000 per month training stipend for a year. That's my point, not sure about all the other stuff you added. If a boxer is just starting his/her boxing career, good luck getting to the Olympics in 2012. 2016 or 2020 is more realistic. [Next time you cut and paste from a website, read it first]

Golden Gloves is a great franchise, but it's a business. It's the oldest tournament, so no kidding it's the most well known. It still is a business, a franchise--which last year didn't advance winners to US Championship and didn't pay winners any $$$. That's what I posted about. Being the most recognized doesn't count for any points last I checked and doesn't directly put any money in your pocket even though GGs makes more money than any other tournament.

Golden Gloves is not the end all be all. Next year, the US Championships will be a seeded tourny w/ the top 4 boxers ranked BY ACCUMULATION OF POINTS FOR THE YEAR at a number of pre-determined tournaments. If it is determined that the GG is NOT one of them, then IMO, it's an empty title and you can keep it. Give me pts or give me $$. Keep the belts.

The pts system is as follows for the tournaments (which will be determined by USAB):
**If bracket has a minimum of 16 competitors
1st place finish = 500 pts
2nd place finish = 400 pts
3rd place finish = 300 pts
4th place finish = 200 pts
5th - 8th place finishers = 50pts
Making draw (i.e. making 1st weigh in) = 15 pts
Winning a bout = 25 pts
All bouts except byes
Points awarded to participants not placing in the top 4
Losing to 1st place finisher = +20 pts
Losing to 2nd place finisher = +15 pts
Losing to 3rd place finisher = +10 pts
Losing to 4th place finisher = +5 pts
If the tournament is unable to schedule a True 3rd box-off, each 3rd place finisher will receive 200 points
5 points will be awarded to each athlete who lost to the 3rd/4th place finishers

***If bracket has less than 16 competitors
1st place finish = 300 pts
2nd place finish = 200 pts
3rd & 4th place finishers = 50 pts
Making draw (i.e. making 1st weigh in) = 15 pts
Winning a bout = 25 pts
All bouts except byes
Points awarded to participants not placing in the top 2
Losing to 1st place finisher = +20 pts
Losing to 2nd place finisher = +15 pts

Cut and paste is a beautiful tool. I don't know about #1 in the country. USAB does have ranking system in place for that that are updated throughout the year. Also, I'm pretty sure Ray Leonard won something else too. LMAO.

SCREW YOU! USA BOXING IS BROKE.
GOLDING GLOVES IS THE THIRD RICHEST FRANCHISE IN THE USA.

I ATE ASS FOR 5 FIGHTS IN A ROW.
I HAVE PROOF TO. I STILL HAVE BEN LEE GLOVES WITH SINGTURE OF HOLLY MIMMS ON IT. YOU WANT TO PLAY FROG-THEN JUMP SUCKER. YOU BETTER ASK HAM VABOUT ME BEFORE YOU START WISECRACKING.

u been hit too many times there fellow. your elevator does not reach the top floor. Ham's is stuck on the second as we speak.
this is why i refuse to let my nephew box, because of fruit cakes like you.

Ray Leonard did give thousands to open up Ray Leonard gym in palmer park. be thankful. He still pays the bills there.

Anonymous said...

Ray paying bills at Palmer Park = funny as hell. I guess he pays all park and planning bills too, huh. only time he came back there was for book promo. lol. he couldn't tell you one thing about palmer park oh my bad SRL boxing center. funny jokers.

Golden Gloves = 3rd richest franchise. Probably so, but what does that do for my boxers?? I could care less really.

The Great One said...

Sugar Ray had to pay for the entire gym, and the monthly bills.
If not, why would they name the boxing center after him. Wake up dummy. He was even there a few months ago to check on things and see if they needed anymore equipment. Ray's old friend Ms. Hall is now operating the business.
I know for a fact that he came in, I have 2 pictures to prove it.

Anonymous said...

Oh Boy! Everyone was a pal of Ray's. Everyone hung out with ray.
Bullcrap, none of you know him for real. He moved away from here when he was 14 years old. I know because I married O'dells first cousin. Google Ray Leonard at Family Furniture. That's me and ex in the picture with him. Pictures dont lie+

Anonymous said...

Ray came to Palmer park for book promo. Hasn't been there in years. It was dedicated to him but is part of national capital parks and rec. He doesn't pay bills, but that would be nice. Lmao at "why is it named after him" just a dedication man. I hope Woodrow Wilsons family didn't have to pay for that bridge or Thurgood Marshall didn't pay for airport. I thin there is a Ray Leonard drive too.

GG's is just one tournament. It doesn't make a boxer. The coach makes a boxer and lots of fights at lots of tournaments like GG's, PAL, US Championships, JO, senior, silver gloves, etc. All of them Olympians that you said came through the GG's probably boxed at all of the other tournaments as well.
