Shayla Mitchell Loses Battle With Cancer!

Sad news to report to you. Shayla Marie Mitchell, the 18-year-old daughter of Centreville, VA boxer "Tattoo" Tom Mitchell passed away on January 28 following her almost two-year battle with Stage 3 Hodgkin's Disease.

One of the great Beltway Boxing images of 2008 took place on November 1 at the George Mason University Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA as Shayla Mitchell led her father to the ring for his bout with Yieta Johnson. Mitchell used the bout as a way to raise money for treatment for young cancer patients. Mitchell lost the bout, but gained a lot of support and money for that cause.

The Mitchell Family is asking that, in lieu of flowers, please show your support by sending contributions to:

Growing Hope
PO Box 151
Fairfax Station, VA 22039

Services for Shayla Mitchell will be held on Monday, February 2 at 11 AM at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street in Manassas, VA. The interment will follow at Stonewall Memory Gardens in Manassas.

BATB sends its deepest condolences to the Mitchell Family.

My father up in Heaven please send your Angels to comfort the Mitchell family. we are truly living in our last days people its time we love one another today for tomorrow may never come:(

Last days? Come on. People were dying before now. It's obvious Shayla had as much as the hearts that held her could give during all her todays and will love her until their last. I believe in God there are no last days.

If you can't donate money or whatever the family needs, please don't use their loss for a soapbox to preach. ACW went up 5 points and Team McCombs down 5 points.

In the Holy Bible it gives many signs of today when the coming of the lord is near.I was'nt saying the end like death but the coming of the lord. But check this my friend its not about me or you so let peace stand where it may.

"Tattoo" Tom, may the peace of the Master cover you and your family at this special time. It was truly inspiring when you stepped in the ring last year at the Patriot Center and fought THE GOOD FIGHT for Shayla, so that her transition could be more comfortable. You have more courage than most and made Shayla and the rest of us proud, showing us that to sacrifice for others is what life is all about. Know that she is in a better place now....and will always be in your corner for life. Call me when you can so we can collaborate to keep the Foundation going to help others...which will keep Shayla's memory alive. GOD Bless you my brother...

Tatoo Tom -- I never met Shayla but if she's anything like her dad, I'm sure she was an outstanding person. I am sincerely sorry for your loss -- all of us at WP miss you and are thinking of you. Blue skies my friend --

Shay Shayy, I miss you so much love. You opened my eyes to so much. I'll never forget the days at the pool. Or the times you tried to convince my dad for him to let you take me out for a while...Not that it mattered...you would just sneak me out anyway. I love you Shayla Marie<3

I am so sorry for your loss, I found this website while searching for images of white roses which my daughter loved. My lovely daughter, who we lost in February of 2009 to cancer. Her fight was not as long as your Shayla's but she fought, nontheless. We pray that God grant you peace and mercy as we pray He does for us too. We struggle daily with our grief and know that it is unending. God bless you and bring you comfort.
