L.Peterson Receives Interim World Title Bout!

Fightnews.com Publisher/Editor-in-Chief Karl Freitag is reporting that the WBO has approved an interim world junior welterweight title bout that will feature undefeated DC junior welterweight Lamont Peterson.

During this afternoon's session of the WBO's annual convention in Fort Lauderdale, FL (where Freitag is doing a live blog), the WBO approved a bout between #4 ranked Peterson (26-0, 12 KO's) and #1 ranked Willy Blain of Germany (19-0, three KO's). Negotiations are expected to start immediately.

Here's where things get a little confusing. There is a title bout rubber match between WBO Junior Welterweight champ Kendall Holt and challenger Ricardo Torres that was slated for December 13 in Atlantic City, NJ. I've been in contact with Freitag and he says that bout is still on. The winner of this bout is slated to unify a portion of the title against WBC titleholder Timothy Bradley.

The interim title bout, according to Freitag, is being put together for Blain primarily because Holt and Torres have been battling over the WBO title for almost a year while Blain has been sitting at number one for almost that entire time.

LOOK FORWARD TO MORE TALENTED FIGHTERS LIKE LAMONT IN THE NEAR FUTURE. GENE MOLOVINSKY OF KEYSTONE & ASSOCIATES ARE BRINGING AMATUER BOXING BACK EVERY MONTH.

This is cool on one hand; on the other, it shows how ridiculous boxing can be. Digital, how do you figure Lamont's chances?

Willy Blain was the #1 amateur in the world at one time having gold medalled at the world amateur championships. But he blew it in the Olympics 4 yrs ago.

From a clip I seen of him a few fights ago, he still looked like an amateur stylist. But who knows...

Blain is originally from France and represented that country in the 2000 and 2004 Olympics.

To answer your question, ACW, Blain is not known for being a good puncher and looking at his record, he doesn't seemed to have faced competition like Lamont.

I think his chances are good, but what happens afterwards? How much longer does he have to wait if he beats Blain?
