DC junior middleweight Lawrence Jones lasted just one minute against debuting 2008 US Olympian Shawn Estrada tonight in Ontario, CA.
With the loss, Jones is now 2-2-1, one KO.

I hope Larwence got paid for this one because he sure didn't have a chance from the very begining.Hate to see it happen to a likeable man like Jones.
Lawrence is very likeable person but this isn't his thing. I hope he can find something else to do other than boxing.
Lawrence Jones is a good fighter. I guess this fight shows the difference between a good fighter and a thoroughbred with real world class ability. Not all fighters can be world champs. Impressive performance by Estrada.
No, this fight shows that Lawrence Jones is not a middleweight... AND Shwan Estrada is a SUPER-middleweight. The size discrepency was incredible.
I agree this shows anything over 154Lbs is way to big for him. Estrada came in over the agreed weight in the contract. Jones didn't quit or get ko'd he was out boxing him and estrada put him against the ropes and threw wildly jones put the ear muffs on instead of taking a knee ( no standing eight in Cali) and he ended up getting knocked down, and was right back up but the ref waived it off.

Luther should not be allowed to fight again anywhere and if Mike is involved with him he should have the brains and the heart to not let him fight. And in the case of Jones, if he put him in that fight with Estrada, I hope that he made sure that Jones got at least 2500. which is the going rate for someone like Estrada. If not he is really stupid and dangerous to any of his fighters.

The bout was an opportunity for Jones to make some money and a possible name for himself. I don't think you can blame Jones for taking a shot at an opportunity. It just didn't come out the way Jones wanted to. Estrada is a solid prospect.
Jones was compensated more than fairly for this fight. He knew exactly what he was in against, he fought hard, was up at the count of 3 (clear headed), and is just fine after the loss. It was a healthy paycheck (more than the quotes on the blog), & he was consensated for Estrada not being on weight as well. Ultimately, Estrada is a super-middle & Jones is a junior-middle. Lawrence Jones will be back at his proper weight class.

If your a fighter looking to make some money and get a chance to do that and possibly have a huge upset that would make a career for you why wouldn't you take it? Jones is a defensively sound and capable fighter. Mike's just trying to make things happen. Plus Jones ain't no spring chicken.
If it was some young prospect, then I could understand them words of condemnation towards Money Mike. But, it's not the case. Jones been around a long time and has sparred with everybody.
The criticism towards Money Mike seems a bit harsh. OK... we'll settle for two unlucky strikes against Mike.
