Congratulations to Salisbury!

Prior to this past Friday night, the last time boxing was held at the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center in Salisbury, MD was on December 13, 1996. Beltway Boxers like Chuck "Pit Bull Sturm, Lloyd "Jabba" Bryan, Joe Fitzpatrick, Rowyan Wallace and Alston Jones were on that card. Decent card but nothing spectacular.

Based on last Friday's card, however, this region seems to have found another home for our great boxers. I write this based on a great quote that Showtime Blow-By-Blow Announcer (and former Baltimore and DC sportcaster) Nick Charles said after Salisbury native Fernando Guerrero's bout. Here is the quote from Charles as he said it to 15Rounds.com's Tom Luffman:

“We’ve done fights in just about every state and over seas but this place is unsurpassed. I’ve never heard a crowd that surpasses this. We said on the air that it was like a title fight atmosphere. Here is a packed house turning out for a guy 9-0. It really speaks volumes [for Salisbury]. It was really exciting to be a part of this.”
