Only 3/7 fights with Beltway Boxers? Meh.
Stop pissin in everyone's Cheerios. Stay home if it doesn't suit you. At least it is progress for DC and there are 3 more fights slated, with potential to showcase more locals.
In order to get tv the show is a co-promotion with Duva Boxing. Of the three tv fights scheduled, Alexander Johnson vs. Albino, Arvin vs. Thompson in the MAIN EVENT, and the Ola Afolabi 8 rounder, our area fighters have national tv exposure. Is there any other area promoter that gets a 5-0 light heavyweight prospect to kick off Friday Night Fights?
Are there some area prospects that would like to be on the show? Then stop hating and support the promoter that is doing this. This is their FIRST show.

You never use local guys. Its always the dirrels or the Carney Bowmans.What happened to Reggie Holly and the rest of the local guys you had for the show??????
Let me kind of put this in some sort of perspective.
I can't think of too many promotional groups who are part of a nationally televised card in their first outing. We've had and have some great promotional groups: Baltimore Pro Bouts (Stu Satosky), Madness Connection, Raging Promotions, the group headed by Jeffrey Johnson, and of course the current promotional groups, to name a few.
All of them have one thing in common: NONE of them had a nationally televised card in their initial outing.
As already mentioned, in order to get the TV deal, Duva Boxing had to be brought in. Concessions had to be made. Unfortunately, some Beltway Boxers were left out to be replaced by out of towners.
I feel bad for boxers like Reggie Holly because he and I have had many conversations about how difficult it has been for him to get fights. I think when Major Heavy Hitters comes back on September 17 (not Sept. 12 as originally reported), you will see more locals.
Please do not equate this to what happened last April when an out of town promotion came in with only William Joppy as a local product. What's happening tonight is definitely a different situation. I do believe that Major Heavy Hitters is committed to the local scene and you will see more Beltway products on the card.
What's great about this debate is that it shows the passion we have cultivated as a fan base for our Beltway Boxers!!
Thanks for the explanation Digital. That makes sense, and as long as more locals are on the future shows, it'll be alright. Ugh, I remember that Joppy show...honestly, probably the worst card I've seen live.

There will always be a mix of in town and out of town fighters on any card that I am involved with. I believe that putting Alexander Johnson or Seth Mitchell or Ishmail Arvin on cards that draw national attention and exposure is good for their careers. They are put in context with other talented fighters and the public can draw their own conclusion. If Alexander looks like a superstar on the card tonight, isn't that better than fighting like a superstar on a dark card? But there is no tv network in America that is going to come to town and televise a show of all DC area fighters. They may have done that in the hey day of Joppy, Holmes, Council, Too Sharp, Reggie Green, Teddy Reid among others (all fighters who were frequently on tv), but not now. So here we are and Major Heavy Hitters has been a part of bringing national tv here as their first damn show. And it is a very very costly thing to do. ESPN pays virtually nothing and any money that you do see gets eaten up by lights, generators, rooms, etc, and in the process you lose a certain number of seats to equipment and espn comps. So the reason that promoters with ambition do it is to enhance their company and to put some fighters on the map. That is what the goal here is with Major Heavy Hitters and I would just hope that people who stop complaining and be supportive of the effort. Clearly the wiiner of Arvin v. Thompson is going to be in a whole different place next week, and that would not happen without ESPN. So come out and support it live or sit back and enjoy the show.
Is there anyway to get a sense of ticket sales thus far? It sounds like a great event. I hope it will be well attended.
