Baltimore light heavyweight Henry "Hurricane" Mayes won a six-round unanimous decision over Joe McCreedy last night on the non-televised undercard of the ESPN broadcast at the Twin River Event Center in Lincoln, RI. The scores were close with Mayes winning 58-56 and 57-56 (twice).
The victory breaks a three-bout winless streak for Mayes which includes a close loss to Joey Spina on March 14 in Lincoln. Spina fought on one of the televised bouts last night.
Mayes is now 7-5-1, four KO's. McCreedy saw his two-bout winning streak snapped and he is now 7-2, five KO's.
According to Fightnews.com's Scott Ploof, Mayes had to be escorted out of the ring by police because he had defeated the local favorite McCreedy (who is from Lowell, MA) and the fans weren't too happy about it, as they shouted obscenities and tried to get at him.

Spina fought a swing bout. Aaron Williams vs. Andre Purlette was the co-feature.
Henry is obviously the real deal.
And good to see there was no home cooking there.
"Hurricane" is the real deal. He is 1 of the most well rounded boxers around. I'm expecting big things coming from Mayes in 08. I also heard that he should have won the fight against Spina (who gets many incorrect decisions in RI). Way 2 go Henry!
It's a good thing Henry got out of there alive! Lowell, Mass., where his opponent is from, is like hell on earth! Good job Henry!
