Thompson FINALLY Gets World Title Shot!!

The wait is over for DC's Tony "The Tiger" Thompson!

The WBO's number-one ranked heavyweight will finally get his world title shot in July when he faces WBO/IBF/IBO champion Wladimir Klitschko in Germany.

The winner of the bout will have an immediate mandatory against the IBF's number one challenger, undefeated Alexander Povetkin.

Congrats to Big Tony. We all know he earned this opportunity and I think he's getting Klitschko at the perfect time. See you in Germany!

SWEET! 2 questions:
A) Will this be for all 3 titles?
B) Any word on the specific date or where/if this will be televised?

Go Tiger!

This will be for all three titles, because the winner will have to face Povetkin, who is the IBF's top contender.

No word yet on specific date or TV network.

Cool. Thanks Digital. If this is televised, I'll make sure to catch it. About damn time the Beltway had a big 4 champion again (on that note, any word on if either of the Petersons will be getting title shots anytime soon?)!

No word yet on the Petersons. Anthony's situation in the lightweight division may be clearing up with Joel Casamayor beating Michael Katsidis last week.

Thompson has a very good chance winning this fight. The last time Klitschko fought (and most likely sparred with) a southpaw was 5 years ago, and that southpaw (Corrie Sanders) knocked him out. I think if Tony steps right all night, mesmerize him with that strong right jab (and I beleive he's right-handed) then about 5-6 start bringing that left behind it, it will most likely be an early night. Take advantage Tony! You will be the stronger fighter mentally! Strategize correctly, adjust accordingly, get the win, then reap the benefits.

Peace,

Congratulations, Tony! We'll all be watching for broadcast info and wishing you the best in the lead up. We know Digital will keep us fully posted on the particulars. Then it's just time to do what you do best!

It's about time! Everyone in DC knows that Tony will bring it back home. I don't think Klitsckho will think this is an easy defense. I can't wait to watch this fight. Good luck, Tony.

It doesn't matter in Klitschko thinks he's getting an easy fight or a hard fight, the bottom line is Wladimir's going to lose to Tony The Tiger!

It is my hope that Tony wins the belts and brings the heavyweight
Championship home for a number of reasons.First he has worked hard and deserves it but their are others involved that have paid a ton of dues also.Barry Hunter has sacrificed for many years to get his self in this position and deserves everything good that comes his way. There are others besides Barry involved that deserve accolades and I hope you get yours also.
I would wish you luck but I know you have already made your own luck.
Go Team Thompson
Sincerely

Tom Browner has trained Tony Thompson from the beginning. He did an excellent job and he did it alone. Berrie Hunter has not did anything with Tony Thompson and was just recently was asked to be the cut man for Tony. You need to read the article in the Houston Times about Tony Thompson and his true trainer. The entire story is the nothing but the truth. People are trying to tke credit for what Tom Browner has done with Tony The Tiger Thompson. Sports Section D-3

Gary,

Do you know how I would contact Tony's management about setting up an interview? I can't seem to find any contact information online. You can email me at dc.charles@gmail.com if that is easier for you. Thanks.
