New Poll: Who is the Beltway Boxer of the Half-Year?

We have reached the midway point of the year, so for the second straight year, I ask the question:

Who is the Beltway Boxer of the Year so far in 2007?
We have had some great performances so far this year and the candidates in the new poll make good claims.

Please take part in the new poll on the blog and leave comments. Thanks, as always.

first, I would like to congratulate new USBA champ Dranel Wilson. He is true worrior and excellent counter puncher. And he had an one of the best cornerman worked with him, Charles Mooney. Congratulation to both you guys. second, I would like to say that Emmanuel is not finished. He is a worrior just like Darnel and he will be back soon. He could have used more jabs and movement but he choose to fight like a worrior. He just got caught, thats all. It happens in boxing. third, I(Han Kim) did not worked in the Emmanuel's corner,I was at the ringside sitting next to Dino Duva. If I was the corner man, I would have stopped the fight after the 5th or 6th round when Emmanuel was at comfortable lead. That clash of head in the 2nd round blurr the vision of Emmanuel.
Well anyway, its over now. Again, congratulation to Darnel. You are really a gentleman. Top of the line classy guy !!

Get serious, Corey has not fought in 8 months, hasn't won in over a year, and never, ever beaten a fighter with the ability of Wilson's last 4 victims, much less in the class of the CHAMP. Why would the Champ fight Corey, its time for the Champ to get paid, to keep getting national exposure. Corey doesn't get him paid, doesn't get him exposure and doesn't deserve the fight.

Difference between these guys is Darnell has never stopped fighting, steady every 3 to 6 months in the ring, in the gym, staying active. During the time span of Wilson's last 4 victories, Cummings is 0-1. He doesn't deserve a title shot, he needs to fight, stay active and develop his game.

Corey should look close at what Darnell has done by not becoming inactive because of a loss. He should go get a victory and fight Judah or one of the other guys Wilson has softened for him. That said, Corey can fight...just wish he would.

Ooops forgot, Darnell Wilson is clearly the fighter of half year and most likely fighter of the year, but more importantly he is the CHAMP! Three exciting, big ko's over quality opponents, top 10 ranking, national exposure and a title! No one is even close, keep making us proud Ding-a-ling!

You guys are a class act.

Wilson for sure. The fight had spots, but was not great. The KO however, was. Wilson gets a shot, but he has a lot to work on. He has no jab and if he just had a little of it, he could do so much more.

Just wanted to say I'm very happy to NOT hear anything about Emmanuel Nwodo after this fight. It looked as if Darnell Wilson crawled into the corner to pray he hadn't killed Nwodo following the knockout. The ref should have stopped that thing when it was clear to everyone what was coming. The knockout was on the level of James Kinchen-Alex Ramos or Hilton vs. Wilfred Benitez. Nothing left but sad, worrisome wreckage. Emmanuel fought well throughout and Ding-A-Ling, as usual, made a lot of mistakes and looked awkward and inactive, all of which he compensated for, as usual, with his world's-finest punching power and wonderful ability to somehow get out of the way of heavy shots. His devastating fists, granite chin, cool demeanor and barrel of confidence carry him a long way, but Darnell was losing much of that fight, and was losing rounds even after Emmanuel's vision blurred. I don't know if at his age he's going to tighten things up and become a more economical fighter, but he couldn't possibly make himself any more dangerous. He's the Beltway's best for the first half of the year.

And now my own quiz: Who would have won a fight between the Ding-A-Ling Man and Bob Foster?

Who has accomplished what Darnell Wilson has this year? NOBODY, that's who. Congratulations to you and Mr. Mooney on a successful and exciting 6 months. One word of advice - Go back to Round 1 and thank Demetrius (Vaughn) Davis for the good work he gave you while you were getting ready for Kelvin Davis. A little thanks goes a long way.
