Inside the Nwodo Camp!

My buddy and chief scribe of Fightkings.com, Michael Amakor has a wonderful story that takes you inside the training camp of USBA Cruiserweight champion Emmanuel Nwodo as he prepares for his title defense this Friday against Darnell Wilson.

Wow, Nwodo's ranked 10 by one of the big four? That's huge (Digital, is that the highest-ranked Beltway Boxer in any division?). Man, this is one fight that SHOULD be in the Beltway area.

Actually, Anthony Peterson is ranked number one at lightweight by the WBO.

Cool. So shouldn't he get a title shot then (granted, knowing what I do about boxing, I get the feeling it's not quite that simple...)?

The situation with the WBO is that the champ Acelino Freitas announced his retirement recently. They have an interim champ in Michael Katsidis. I believe he is scheduled to fight soon. Peterson is scheduled to fight Sept. 7 in Memphis. Maybe (and it's a big maybe) if Peterson wins his bout, he will get the next shot at the title.

As far as Nwodo-Wilson is concerned, the winner could very well be in line for a title shot.

I've heard if Wilson wins, a title shot is pretty much a done deal against WBC/WBA champ Jean-Marc Mormeck because of Wilson's affiliation with Duva Boxing. Also Duva Boxing has been working with Don King in this cruiserweight situation and King promotes Mormeck, who does have to get past a mandatory against David Haye first.

If Nwodo wins, he could get a shot with new IBF champ Steve Cunningham if Cunningham does not fight a third time with Wladorcyzk.

I got news for everyone. This guy, David Haye is really a killer. Nwodo vs. wilson is an intiguing fight to say the least and should really have some fireworks but Haye will put anyone and everyone to sleep.

What a fight this should be. I hope both of you guys come out safe. Both of you guys have done more than enough already to deserve a title shot. And now you two are risking that shot in a dangerous fight like this... I and everyone else applaud you.

God bless fellas,

Mike Sawyer
