A Clarification:

On the previous post, I made it seem as if the District of Columbia Government was involved in the April 27th card in DC from the very beginning. I have since been told that was not the case.

According to a representative from the DC Sports and Entertainment Commission, the promoters contacted the city in the last few days prior to the card taking place. That was when Mayor Fenty and Councilmember Brown was called in to try to be a part of the press conferences that neither could attend.

Expecting a response from the other side of this table, I say thanks for the clarification.

Would it be a good idea for whoever sanctions these (sorry I am not sure) to have a Guidelines/timeline checklist or packet prepared of what the promoters should provide, and are responsible for to make the fights in DC a success, things like media contacts, council numbers, where advertisements/banners can be placed...

What we need is a broom to sweep clean the DC Boxing Commission. Their performance on ESPN last week was a total embarrassment. That the time keeper timed a two minute round and the doctor could not or would not move herself up the stairs to take a close look at a cut is just endemic of a failed commission. There is no one even remotely affiliated with the commission who knows anything about the sport. Now, they know how to scam the money and freebies off a show like the Tyson show, but they have no idea what it takes to promote the sport in DC. We are now down to a couple of shows a year here. They are pitiful.

Who was the female fight doctor?

Actually, there were two female doctors working the card.

The one in question was Dr. Dawne Carroll. She has worked many cards in the area over the last seven years.

The other doctor was Dr. Khadisha Rapp. This was the first time I have seen her, but she told me she has worked bouts before.

This was the first time, by the way, I have seen two female physicians work a boxing card at the same time.

In all fairness to the Dr. Carroll ,she should have come up the stairs to look at the fighter, but it is the Referee incharge and all he had to do was ask her to come up and look at the cut, but for what they pay these people its a joke to expect what you see on T.V. at big fights interms of officials being efficent,if we did not have these basically volunteers at the shows we would not have anybody.
