Looks like a great show! I'll be in Baltimore for December 7th and Fairfax, VA for December 9th! I wish the DC show was in the afternoon and I'd go to that one too!

I look forward to this.

I think there's a typo though-who has never been stopped in a contest, Wilson? So all 40 losses have been by decision? Ouch.

Warren, I look forward to seeing you at both events!

ACW, Wilson has never been stopped in a pro bout and he has faced literally a who's who of boxers in the heavyweight division.

This includes everyone from Beltway Boxers like Hasim Rahman, Tony Thompson and Thomas "Top Dog" Williams to former champions like Greg Page and Frans Botha to current champs like Shannon Briggs.

By the way, Wilson turned 50 years old this past October. I hope and pray I will look as good as he does when I am 50. He is in GREAT shape!

Don't forget Oliver McCall,Larry Donald, Oleg Maskaev, Tyrell Biggs and Andrew Golota (twice), and he even fought Ray Mercer to a draw. If this were diving or gymnastics, Wilson's degree of difficulty would pump up his record considerably.

While I thought that Juan Carlos Robles was by far the most impressive new face on the last Patriot Center card, Wilson should provide an insightful measure into exactly what Robles is made of. I'm looking forward to this one.

Marion Wilson is the reason that there should be a professional boxers pension fund. He has, as mentioned, fought everyone, often times on a couple of days notice. He has been the prototypical journeyman fighter who should be able to retire and receive a basic pension. Unfortunately at a time when he should be retired, he has to fight on to try and earn a decent wage.

Mr. Molineaux:

Thank you for coming strong to the blog. You are so right about the pension fund!

Great comment!

Excellent point indeed by Tom. If Wilson isn't/wasn't the definition of the consumate hard-working journeymen -- I don't know what is. To those not familar with him, they may take a look at his record and think he's an absolute tomato-can. Due to the competition he's faced, not really the case. I wouldn't call him good, but I wouldn't call him bad either. He's a journeymen, and does the tag honor. Man...That guy is deceptively cagey defensively (hard to hit with more than one clean-punch) and his chin...Dear god...What in the world unknown-substance is that thing made of??? It's not like steel...It's HARDER than steel!

* If Wilson doesn't deserve a modest pension...I don't know WHO does folks.

* Wilson is just a true original and rarity in this day and age. I plan on writing a fairly lengthy piece honoring him when he retires. Hopefully...That day will come sooner rather than later.

(I would like to have Wilson read the piece...And be able to understand and comprehend it clearly.)

...Wilson is FIFTY now??? Dear god how the time flies...Yes, he looks magnificent, but dear god does he need to retire...(I was thinking he was about 45 at the most...)

What in the world made Wilson go the distance in those 40 fights, when he could have very easily have just taken a knee??? This guy was only getting paid in the 4 figures folks, and certainly never made more than a 5-figure payday throughout the course of his entire career. And although he SHOULD have at least have gotten a small bonus for going the distance, most of the time...He probably didn't. (It may have enabled him to get more fights and sparring, but christ...If I was the promoter, I would have slipped the at least a little SOMETHING. You know, a $100 bill and a hand on the shoulder if nothing else...)

(Sorry for the multiple posts here guys, just wanted to add the following...)

I truly hope this upcoming year is Wilson's last as a fighter, and that he is matched very carefully. Yes, I know he can handle himself, and is in magnificent shape for his age, but when it comes down to it...No man over-50 really has any business being in a profesional prizefighting ring. Period.

A pension in boxing. what a novel thought. If Senator McCain weren't getting his pockets laced by King, Arum, etc. this might just become a reality. It's a true shame that they won't take the simple steps needed to clean up the sport that we all love. Instead we have a 50 year old man (who's only claim to fame is taking a good punch) who feels the need to fight for peanuts.

Marion Wilson is now off the card. Juan Carlos Robles will now be facing Danny Sheehan of Brockton, MA. Sheehan's record is 10-35 with four KO's. He has lost his last 12 bouts.

*Gulp*

Well...The 50.yr.old Wilson may be off the card -- but I see that they got a pretty suitable replacement! (LOL)

...Where is Ken Lakusta, Everett "Bigfoot" Martin, or Jaime "The Sponge" Martin (Because he 'absorbs') when you need them?
