Main Event Announced for Martin's West September 14!

The main event has been announced for the Baltimore Pro Boxing show on Thursday, September 14 at Martin's West in Woodlawn, MD. Hopefully, nothing will change because it has the potential to be one of the better bouts of the year.

Undefeated Baltimore light heavyweight Corey "Black Ice" Cummings will take on Berry "Killa Bee" Butler of Greenville, SC for the "East Coast Light Heavyweight Championship." Both guys are on major winning streaks.

Cummings (15-0, 12 KO's) won his last outing, a third-round TKO over Anterio Vines on August 5 at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh. Cummings is ranked number 11 by the WBO at light heavyweight. This is a guy who many people -- myself included -- have been very high on.

Butler (20-12, 18 KO's) is a true veteran who has had an up and down career but is now on the upswing. He has faced some solid competition over his 18-year career including former light heavyweight champion Antonio Tarver. He is familiar to long-time Beltway Boxing fans because he has fought in this area 10 times against the likes of Beltway Boxers Courtney Butler, Beethevean Scottland, Roland Pelt and even the promoter of this card, Jake Smith. Butler stopped Marlon Hayes in the seventh round in his last outing on June 3 in Trenton, NJ.

But here is the stat that makes this bout so appealing:

Cummings's last eight wins have all been by knockout. Butler has won seven in a row -- all by knockout.

Undefeated Baltimore light heavyweight Mike "The Persecutor" Paschall is scheduled to participate in the co-feature bout.

Other Beltway Boxers slated for this card are: Jessie "The Beast" Nicklow, Mike "Little Rock" Ricasa, Willie "For Real" Williams and Nick "Flash" Collins.

i thought black ice was with don king is he still with don black ice is good fighter who do you think in the area would be a good fight for him

According to Jake Smith, Cory is still with King. Smith said he had to get permission from King to make this fight happen.

That was news to me. I thought he was out of his contract with DK.

As far as good fighters in the area; if he stays at light heavyweight, I don't know if there is anybody that can touch him in the area at this point.

Right now, our leading prospects at light heavy are guys like Mike Paschall and, if he moves up, Henry Buchanan. I don't think they are at the same point as Cummings at this stage.

If Cory moves up to cruiserweight, there is USBA champ Emmanuel Nwodo and Darnell Wilson, who is someone Cory has wanted to fight for a long time.

Right now, though, neither one of those bouts make any real sense.

A good bout I was looking forward to seeing was the Ding-A-Ling Man Vrs Black Ice. But now wilson has been fighting at Heavyweight and Cruiserweight so that probally wont happen unless they met at a weight between light heavy and cruiser

Gary -- How does Cummings stack up against the multitude of Euro "World" champs?

I think he may need another six months before he goes after the world title. This bout against Butler is a minor step up, but it could be a difficult bout for him.

Jake need to stop pretending that those bums can jessy and both of the mikes can't fight they are fighting cab drivers

Anonymous said...

Come on brad you know that jake is nursing those bums you seen what happen when mike fought that guy that too sharp train

Anonymous--Looks like your another B-more hater. Let me guess your from DC right? Jessie and Mike are moving up at the right pace that any good prospect does. You say they are bums fighting cab drivers, all DC fighters start off the same way, moving up a little bit in competition at a time. Even the Peterson brothers started off fighting so called "bums", and so did your boy Too-Sharp and look how good he is.
Main point is give them a chance to prove themselves, then judge. Jessie only has 5 fights man give him time. He is only 19 and improves everytime he fights.

The bout between Ron Boyd and Mike Ricasa was a tough battle that Boyd won by majority decision. It could have gone either way.

I agree with Bull and Brad on this one. I think these guys are being moved the proper way thus far. In the case on Jessie Nicklow, I am becoming more and more impressed with him each fight. That's what I look for -- increasing development-- in a fighter. So far, Nicklow has shown me that.

There has been criticism among fans and reporters about the competition that the Peterson Brothers are facing. But they are both (especially Anthony) developing very well.

Exactly my point Gary. Unlike Evander Holyfield, who won a World title in his 12th fight and fought very tough fighers his whole career, most fighters are brought up this way. The Peterson Brothers are both very good fighters, and they were brought up the right way. They should now be facing tougher and tougher competition. But for some-1 to judge them in their 1st 5 fights, you could have said the same thing.

As for Jessie, I totally agree with Gary, this kid impresses me more and more every time he fights. And if you get the chance to talk with him or know him, you will see, this is a very very tough guy. Jessie is one of those guys who is willing to fight any-1, and if it were up to him he would probally go straight after a title. His time will come.

Ditto, when a guy has twenty or thirty fights, you can begin crying about his competition level. But right now, those guys are doing their jobs and their respective management is doing their's.

Can you confirm that Boone Pultz will be fighting 9-14-06?

Gary Digital Williams said...

No, I can't confirm that. Boone has been scheduled to fight for the last three months.

Jake has not told me anything yet about Boone being on the show. I will definitely put the info out there if it happens.
