March 3 Card Update!

Hopefully, you heard my interview with Cassandra White, the promoter for the March 3 "Fighting on the U" card at the Lincoln Theatre. I just wanted to recap some of the changes for the card that she talked about.

First, Thomas "KO" Snow will NOT fight Reggie "The Mechanic" Holly on this card. Both Snow and Holly will be on the card in separate bouts.

Cambridge, MD's Angel "Saumnice" McNamara has been added to the card. McNamara will face Cynthia Jones of Tampa, FL. McNamara was scheduled to headline the all-female show at BXF on February 10, but that show was cancelled.

And the interesting matchup between former world champions DeMarcus "Chop Chop" Corley and "Fearless" Freddie Pendleton seems to have hit a snag. I'll keep you posted on that.

The main event remains the same: Henry "Sugar Poo" Buchanan vs. Lloyd "Jabba" Bryan for the Tri-State Light Heavyweight title. Also, Purcell "Hard Rock" Miller will take on 2000 Olympian Dante Craig.

Also, you may be seeing a lot of Cassandra White during the week of the card. The Channel 9 story I referenced in a previous post may air that week and White is scheduled to be a guest on "Sports Talk with Glenn Harris" on Wednesday, March 1 at 8 pm ET.

I do think so, B4L. The Purcell Miller-Dante Craig fight should be a real good one. The Buchanan-Bryan bout might be interesting for as long as it lasts.

If they could have kept the Corley-Pendleton bout, that would have been nice for name recognition's sake.

But I think it's a good card and the fact that DC proper hasn't had a card here in more than six months hopefully means that boxing fans are starved for some action in the city.

I might go to this, as the fight last week at the Patriot Center (my second live event) did nothing to make me dislike boxing, but there are two potential issues:
-this event isn't on campus, but that's a minor problem, overtaken by...
-the Patriot Center event cost me $20, this is $38, and you probably know better than I: is this worth the extra $18 plus the Metro fare? It's not like I can't afford it or anything, I just want to make sure this is wortg the time and money.

Thanks.

ACW, go see these fights. They'll be worth it. "Poo" is a great fighter and it'll be interesting to see what "Jabba" has left. The Miller/Craig matchup should be explosive and "Snow" can really fight as well. It's cool to see college kids watching boxing. It used to be a college sport you know. Anyway, you'll find that at these smaller fights, you're a lot closer to the ring so you can really see the punches fly and the blood spill. Plus, you could be seeing a future champion.

Actually, The Lincoln is a unique venue. The ring is actually on the stage and while there are good sight lines, it's a little different than going to Martin's West or Michael's Eighth Avenue.

The crowds are usually very good, though. It should be a good card.
